need help ASAP

Sorry for the title but a guy hit me by the back yesterday and the insurance adjuster is coming soon. Do the insurance companies cover aftermarket parts that are damaged?

Did you have them listed/scheduled on your policy? Pictures of these mods with your agent/company?

The Big Question: Were you PAYING more on your insurance because of mods on your car?

They will not unless you let them know ahead of time with value.

Doesnt matter. Unless it was documented somehow, id say you are not going to get coverage for aftermarket parts.....although it has happened before.

I don't know why they wouldn't if you didn't have your receipts in order...

I answered this on a separate post but for those reading this thread --I notify my insurance of every added modification and was instructed to keep the receipts . My insurance premium did go up a little but I have passed their limit for mod coverage . That means they will cover me up to the 32K limit and the parts I added above that cost I am left on my own .

They did recommend a special insurance for select customized cars but I decided to stick with them as I also have other cars and my car is limited to weekend use (weather permitting) .

Dude - he hit you. He is responsible and will pay

for what damage was done. Not sure why your insurance company is even involved.

One way to get around this is to carefully read the release the insurance company wants you to sign and exclude from the release the aftermarket parts.

In other words you can release the insurance company (assuming satisfactory coverage) but not the owner of the car. You can make him (the owner) pay for those items not covered by the insurance company.

However, do NOT sign any release w/o the advice of counsel!
