Unbelievable Experience at a Dealer Today
Ed: Unless I'm mistaken, there is only one dealer you can go to right? Lack of adequate competition can make for some pretty arrogant attitudes.
A salesperson from the dealership responded here:

That dealership is also an Audi and VW dealership and they've been around a long, long time. They're well known for not exactly being the most customer service oriented dealership in the world primarily because there are so many Porsches sold in Orange County they can apparently get away with being *******s.
I talked with a very nice salesman named Apollo quite some time ago and he was excellent but this isn't the first bad experience I've heard about Newport (sales and service).

I would have kissed his ***, told him I was ready to buy today, that I was in love with that car, the color combo, options list, as if it was built for me!!! Just want a test drive to seal the deal..... once in the car tell him you plan on paying cash and can have a casheirs check ready in 30min as your bank is on stand by!!!! Once behind the wheel.... tell him how you can't believe this will be your car in less then a few hours..... Ask the salesmen what they plan on doing with the commision they kake after the sale????????????? Maybe tell him your wife wants a SUV and maybe he can get two deals today....Then I would proceed to push the car, tear through gears, run the car hard...real hard....have some fun.... then take the last off ramp sideways (assuming putting no other drivers at risk....) rip through the last few gears and then all over the brakes as we approached the dealer..... smile ear to ear, get out of the car, look him right in the eye and say, "thanks for the test flight *******...." then toss the keys at his feet and walk out.... assuming the initial story is accurate... two sides to every story, have learned that over the years as well.
you're funny!
I know for a fact not everyone is like that there, I delt with a great salesperson when I placed my order for my 997..to bad a few bad apples ruin it for everyone.. I do agree that the owner should get more involved and deal with **** like this. Someone walking in to pay 85K and up for a car should not be treated like this.. After all 20 min of a saleperson time to drive a person might be worth unk amount of $ later down the road for the dealership. After all you're selling the dealserships car not yours, salespeople forget that the person walking on the lot comes there for the car then the dealership not for the salesperson (most of the time).
Wow . I just all of the posts on both threads and will post on both threads on two separate subjects.
I disagree about a "cutomer always being right" (posted on other thread). No job is worth being bullied by a customer. Where does one draw the line , Is it 20 test drives ? Or when a person denigrates another just because he's "the cutomer" ? That may or may not be relevant to this .
On the other hand -- a guy goes to buy a car and he ought to be given a resonable opportunity . If this poster took so many test drives it could been addressed in a more professonal way AFTER a no sale multiple test drive instead of BEFORE.
Conclusion --
1) Both of these guys locked horns enough to post about it . In my opinion emotional reasoning is not an efficient way of conflict resolution or doing business.
2) It takes one to be bigger than the other and I am not reading this from EITHER .

Newport Porsche is my local dealership. I haven't formed any opinion yet, but will be following this thread closely.
I look like a college student on weekends when I visit the dealership. Needless to say I'll vote w/ my wallet if i ever feel discriminated due to my age. I have the money, I'm not going on a date, why should I dress up to impress bunch of sales people?

My experience at Newport Auto has always been good. I've bought 3 cars (Audi, Boxster, 997S) from them over the years and have been treated well by their sales and service. Perhaps I just lucked out getting the good apples (Elden & Apollo). Though no longer there, Allen and Annita were always attentive when the cars needed service.
No affiliation. Just wanted to present another side FWIW.

Further to my earlier post, businesses don't HAVE to be nice to everyone all the time, although many wouldn't stay in business if this was normal behavior. This dealership has been around a long time, despite offending numerous people with their manner. A customer has the choice to go elsewhere, which in the case of OC is 20 - 40 miles to numerous other dealers. I know a person who went to this OC dealer a few years ago to purchase (not just look at) a Bentley. He stood in the show room for 10 minutes, being ignored by sales person doing something in his office (and not acknowledging customer). He walked out and drove to La Jolla and bought his Bentley there. Rather than getting mad, take your business elsewhere.
me too. How about circle porsche in long beach? they just moved into their new building I think.

Happened at every dealership. A few years ago, I was looking at the E46M3. I went to the BMW dealership which I had bought 2 BMWs before. I called ahead to ask for a test drive, and they said okay. When I got there, they refused to let me test drive the car. I told them that I have purchased 2 BMWs for them previously. The manager came out and said that he cannot let me test drive it and gave me some BS reason. I was in my early 30s, married with a child, not some young punk.
Well, I'm never going back that dealership.

The 2nd experience sent me over to Circle who got my business.
