Factory Navigation Install
Factory Navigation Install
Hi guys,
I'm looking to put a factory nav system on an 06 Carrera S that I just picked up. I was wondering what parts were required to do so? I've located someone that is going to sell me the navigation unit, and bracket. But my question is what additional parts (if any) are needed to complete the install?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I know many people will say to install an after market unit, but I really want the OEM look.
Thanks everyone

I just had the same thing done to my 08C4S by the dealer. Talked to the technician afterwards and he said that it was a PITA, mostly due to harness issues. It appears that, if NAV does not come as a "factory option", one (or more) of the harnesses (sp?) are different, requiring some splicing on your part. If you have a good relationship with a local dealer who has done this install before I would suggest for you to talk it over with them before pursuing an install yourself so that you know what you are up against. I will try to see if I can get a copy of all the parts numbers that he used on mine.
P.S. One more thing - my PCM and Instrument Cluster modules had to be re-programmed by the dealer (with a special code for your specific car) to accept the NAV input/output and display all of the NAV functions.

I have taken this into consideration, but would really perfer to keep the OEM look of the car. As well as navigation is an additional selling feature when I decide to sell the car.
OEM look is a good reason but you bought the car without nav so I'm not sure why you think it's going to help resale - its absence didn't deter you.
Why not just buy an aftermarket double DIN unit, which will be easier and cheaper to install, look stock and far exeed the OEM unit's functional abilities

Not to mention that if you trade your car into a porsche network, you might actually be penalized for installing this unit.
Thanks I'll make a call to check with the dealer. I know the dealer can install it for me too. I was trying to avoid the initial costs of the parts, since I can get the Navigation unit itself for a relitively good price.
I am having my factory nav unit taken out and replaced with the need Pioneer unit, that has Ipod, Bluetooth, touchscreen and voice commands. if anyone wants a Nav unit and a Denison unit let me know.

Plus the Garmin looks so much better stuck to the window or your car. OEM all the way.
I tested the Porsche NAV versus my Garmin Nuvi on a trip from Philly to Boston. Let's just say that I was shocked to see the Porsche NAV gave better and more accurate directions. A couple of times the Garmin would have sent me up the wrong ramp!
