WTB: Center console with Porsche Crest
#16
The premium version has a slightly stronger leather smell, and the Crest was slightly (and I mean slightly) different looking. It's hard to tell the difference. I only recommend the premium version for folks with full leather consoles. For everyone else, save the money and buy this one.
Every passenger I've had in the car instantly notices it, and they always want to touch it.......not sure why. LoL

The cheaper one is a genuine Porsche part.

Here's some images of my 'economy' center console lid. You'll notice it's clearly not as black as the console paint, e-brake handle and seat leather. The flash images of course exaggerate the issue but IMHO it's a shade off.
ps. My bad . . . It is REAL stitching!

I'm 'full leather' (not the console however) as well and went through the same mind game as you are regarding an $800 lid.

Embossed Porsche Crest Center Console Lid
After reading these posts, I too went for the less expensive version and am extremely happy with it. Once conditioned, goes very well with my Black Adaptive Sport Seats Plus, which also have the embossed crest in the headrests, and looks awesome on my Carbon Fiber Center Console with the Carbon Fiber e-brake handle and gearshift ****. It's so nice, that after reading the early posts and then receiving mine, I noticed it had real thread stitching, and thought maybe they sent me the wrong one. And it's true, everyone does notice it and want to touch it . A highly recommended accessory.

As demand drops, Porsche pricing increases when parts are made in smaller batches. Before these came out, these had to be custom ordered by the Exclusive department. It took 4-5 months, and they were over $1000.00. So at $300, it was an obnoxious steal (to us), $600 is still a decent price.........based on what we have seen. If it stays on trend with 996 parts, I would expect to see these over $1000 within the next few years.
I had the 'economy' version in my last car, I loved it. Side-by-side, you couldn't see a difference between this version and the more premium version. I think the only difference was the smell! One of my favorite upgrades. Already added an Alcantara version to my 981.

How many Porsche crests does a Porsche really need? It looks nice, but that makes what? 4 in the interior? (steering wheel, both front seat headrests and the console). I love Porsches, but I know what my car is. My car has the hood crest and the steering wheel crest and that is enough for me. Matters not really, as long as you love your car. Cheers.
