997s vs 996 tt
I wouldn't trade the torque of the Turbo for the 997S. In our speed limit loving country (God Bless America), I want to feel some thrust over short distances before I have to get off of it. I had a '97 C4S, great car - not enough juice. Decent thrust in 1st. gear, second was OK but it didn't start moving till 5K rpm, after that you're doing 65-70 mph down a 25-35 mph street. Third gear on the expressway? It started moving - at 80 mph. Get on it in third gear/60 mph in the Turbo and you pass ten cars in five seconds. I guess that's why muscle cars became so popular in our country - tear *** block to block. If I lived in a place where one could safely and legally let the car run, especially through a lot of curves, I could have a lot more fun in the NA cars. In my day to day use, I exploit the Turbo's power a lot more often than I do its handling. I'm not bashing the NA Porsches, though. They're still quick and they have a feel, look, etc. that lesser sports cars just don't have. My $.02

I agree with Rob
I can't afford a turbo, but I felt the NA 996 just didn't have enough juice. So I traded for a 997 S. I think the added torque and HP will be a marked improvement. The magazines seem to agree.
I definitely would not change my 996TT for a 997s. I just drove a 997S at lunch. I liked it a lot but just doesn't have the power of a TT. I was impressed with the new interior--a huge step forward.

Quoi? Isn't a gently enjoyed 2002 or 2003 as cheap as or cheaper than a new 997S?

Not when the dealers mark them up.
For example:
02 TT 12000 miles - cracking paint on front bumper, 3 inch gouge in front fender, interior smelled like a wet dog:
$99,000

the GT3 man. i test drove the 2S & was smiling home in my GT3. 997 is great but remember it just another regular Carrera 2. people thinking about trading their Turbo or GT cars for a 997 C2S will regret.
