When the 997s came out in 2005 I drove both cars for 20 minutes each.

The S was very impressive.

The C2 didnt see much diff from my 996.

I was impressed with the S.

what is PSE??

and great points, mickfluff...excellent points (gorgeous car too btw).

ugh so confusing...im not a mod freak...but i do like doing a few mods for aesthetics...id probably do similar things to the front bumper..make it look a bit more aggressive, i definitely would have the quad exhaust...ugh...i guess what it comes down to is when i see the RIGHT car at the RIGHT price....ill know that this is the one!

i found another interesting prospect and it has 'ruffled leather seats' which i hadnt seen before..looks nice..im assuming theyre more comfy than the standard seats?

Get the S

This seems so simple to me. For about $6K or 10% you get a better car, more power better brakes. Even if you don't ever track the car the S just adds to the daily driving pleasure. The S feels faster and pulls harder there is no doubt after you drive both. If you are going to mod then each will benefit making the S that much faster, if no mods then you are already starting with a better product.

Get the best car you can afford. If you can swing the S and don't have to compromise on year or miles then you will never be sorry. They are great cars and the longer you own it the more you will notice the extra power.

Once I looked at both and drove both the decision was easy, although I had plans to track the car from time to time. If you ever think track days are in your future, and they should be because they are so fun, then the S is the clear winner.

not really....

You don't get a better car, you actually get the same car with bigger brakes and 30more HP and comparing it to a well optioned none S thats about is....of substantial worth while mentioning. For 5K swing I agree go with the S, for 10K Its a all depends on whats important to you...... if money is truly no concern get the turbo but if this debate ever comes up up it is clearly because one is looking to maximize therr $'s spent IMO...

if money is no concern, get the GT2 or CGT. But don't get the one Hamilton's dad just crashed.
GT3 is also not bad.

Right now Im going to shop around for a C2S i think....hopefully my budget will support that! if not then ill fall back on the C2 ) all together for a first 911 and 997 c2 or c2s is pretty damn good
If it helps- I just found my '05 C2S Cab with 16k Miles for $71K- very loaded- it is definitley a buyers market out there- the car is like new and is loaded- full leather / supple leather, peremium sound, nav, the car's sticker was 108K in '05- no way would I have bought a new one at near sticker- the market is too soft- plus it's certified good for an additional 3 years or 80K miles...

Cheers
