Imagine the headline: '0-60 in 4 secs - 30mpg'. Nothing else comes close (assuming Porsche's claims are met)!

This should have all the other performance car makers living in fear.

+1! In a world with dwindling fuel reserves, 500+ BHP 11MPG monsters (we all know which cars fit the description) make less and less sense. This is the most intelligent approach to a performance car I've seen. I'll bet the PDK 911S Chrono, once tested, does the 0-60 benchmark in in 4.0 secs dead - Porsche always understates its performance claims!

We're not running out of oil any time soon. As a matter of fact, I'll bet that BP and Goldman Sachs are hip deep in manipulation of oil futures.
Beyond the politics, I'm thrilled to see Porsche start to advance the cause of conservation.
[quote=DFW911T;1901517]Ian, please save me the hyperbole, I'm one of those 600bhp, 14mpg monsters. Don't buy the hype.

Well now I feel much better about things
How silly to buy the hype! Thanks for your enlightened input.

E92 M3 state 0-60 4.8sec and R&T test 4.1-4.2sec
335 state 300hp and most people dnyo 280hp on wheel
0-60 state at 5.6sec R&T test at 5.0sec
Z06 State 505hp and lots people dyno at 500hp at wheel
GT-R state 480hp and dyno lot more than than that as well
too many to count !! i will say new 997.5 S will run under 4.0 sec for sure
cause the 997s with 6peed ran 4.1sec under R&T newest test during March!!

Driving a very fuel-thirsty car here as a daily driver is now prohibitively expensive so for me, Porsche is going in exactly the right direction.
This isn't hyperbole or politics. The situation in the UK is slightly different - premuim gas here is now £5.60 (approx $11.00) per gallon. Yes you read that correctly (and about $8 of that is tax - you see why so many people are emigrating from the UK)! It costs me about the equivalent of $130 to fill the tank in my 997S. Ouch! At least I get between 200-300 miles for the money. A real gas-guzzler would only go half as far on that much gas.
