Yupp, wasn't one of the "benefits" of the 09 MY lower emissions?
I'd love to see a bypass kit that goes straight from the 1st muffler to the exhaust tip.... OR, straight from the cat to the exhaust tip. haha

Crazy!

+1 on the bypass pipe from the center muffler to tips.

The question I want to know is, despite the convoluted piping mess, will the 09 be quicker than the 05-08? I'm all for decreased emission and yet maintaining a certain performance advantage.

Yes it will be quicker.
Look at the HP/TQ ratings.
Look at preliminary 0-60, 0-100, and 1/4 mile times.

Yep, per the specs and literature it will be faster. Too bad there's not many places to open it up in Hawaii though (I'm from O'ahu - aloha)

I would bet that if you want to run aftermarket high flow cats software will definitely be required as the exhaust temp difference will be to great and the signal would be hot. FVD hopefully or some other tuner will be releasing their tunable software to adjust for this, this is how the M3's are with the built in cats. You change out the cats and you will definitely need software.

I think it's amazing that Porsche completely revamped the whole exhaust structure. Can't be cheap to change all that...

They have the same system on the S and standard car now, they are saving money.

It is all about emissions, I would have to take another look at the PDF but there was a section on how the cats warming quicker lowers startup emissions.

Porsche going green ? Gasoline , emisisons, and European regulations might have been factored into all the cars .

What it shows is a trend where high performance gasoline cars are evolving . It actually creates an aftermarket too but the problem with the current economy might even trickle its way into Porsche territory where a buyer may not want to spend more and more even on a Porsche .

They put in a whole new engine, so why not! The new motor is a totally different design to the 996/7 engine.

I wasn't aware the 09 engine was completely different from the 08. I thought it added DFI and changed the manifolds and air intake and exhaust.

Most of time DFI engine operates on very lean air/fuel mixture (65:1) thus producing exhaust gas with high NOx , plus utilizing exhaust gas recirculating ... there for very anusual and complex exhaust system.
