Am I wasting my time?
Thanks everyone for your input. I appreciate all the responses, as they've surely helped me make a decision.
I've decided to wait until the Fall for the following reasons:
-new models dropping
-the increasingly difficult economy
-more time to find my dream car! (maybe hold out for a GT3?)
Unfortunately, I'll be moving 2 cars to FL instead of 1 but I think it'll be worth it. In the meantime, if the right car at the right price comes along and I can't resist, I'll be posting some amatuer pics!

Good call John. Prices will be even lower in the fall for all of the reasons stated above. Also, it really is a good idea to find "the one". Last year for my birthday my wife handed me a little box. Inside it was a Porsche keychain. That was her way of saying go for it. Took me a few weeks to narrow in on a handful of cars, but it was worth the time and effort. I got exactly what I wanted and enjoyed the search. This car will change your life for the better. I came out of an E46 M3 too, so I know
.
Good luck.

Okay, have to share. Looked at an 05' C2S last night. Very nice (options-condition) and cared for BUT it's a 2005 and only has one year left on warranty. Seller was very nice and he's asking $61,995 - said he didn't have a lot of room to negotiate.
He seemed well informed. I mentioned the huge discount on new models and that i could basically get an 05' CPO or 06' for the same price. Told him I was going to wait on an 09' or a great deal on a used C2S. Didn't waste his time (or mine) and said good luck.
So today I check back on CL and see that he INCREASED his price to $62,995 !?!

As another former E46 BMW owner and now the owner of an 08 C2S, you will not be at all disappointed with your choice. Find the right one and then pull the trigger. There are a lot of discounts out there now and sure to be more in the fall.
Im in the same boat as most of you guys who came from E46 M3's. I recently sold mine and in the market for a 997 C2S. I've heard great reviews from people coming from the M, most of them say its all worth it.

I also came from all BMW's to my second Porsche. I had the last 2 generation 3's (E46 and E90) as my daily drivers and the Porsche is a much better car in a different way then the BMW. The 3's coupe rear seats are much more useable then the 911. To tell you the truth, you could only throw groceries in the back seat because it really is that SMALL.
Forget the price, if is the car you want....go for it.

Not so in this particular case
But maybe it'll be marked down for a July 4th blowout sale

It seems as though we need a "M3 to 997" club around here
I've had my eyes on a particular car for a while and since we're on the topic, tell me what you guys think -
2008 C2S
-White/Black alcantara sport adaptive seats
-Sport chrono package plus
-Heated seats
-Aero kit
-Deviated lobster claws
-Sport exhaust
-PCM (Nav)
-Bose high end
-Alcantara steering wheel
-2,900 miles, warranty in effect til 50k
Asking price after negotiation : $83,500!
seems high, doesn't it???

I traded my M3 and purchased an 07 c2s cab this past december. The performance between the two cars isn't that much different. I do like the 997 better simply because I think it has better lines and the stability control doesn't kick on every time I get on it. If you really want a different feel with more performance I would get a GT3.
