Need some advice on purchasing new 997
Hi guys, this is my first post here on 6speed and would appreciate some advice.
I am in the market to purchase a 997 C2. Knowing that the 2009s are only a few months away and a deteriorating economy, many dealers are drastically marking down prices. Best I have been offered is 10% off a car that stickers around 79,500. I would like to know if there is more wiggle room, perhaps 15% (below invoice) on a leftover 2008 on the lot or is 10% the best I can get? Is it possible to get a car below invoice price?
Many thanks for all your help
Johnny

You won't a car below invoice. 10 percent is a great starting point and you may shave off a few more bucks depending on the specifics of the car but not much (if at all) . As you can see the used car market is limited. Inventory is lower than usual and even though the economy is down South Florida will always have demand . It many not be the locals who are the main customers as their business and real estate might be momentarily squeezed by the economic downturn .
When real estate was flying high the buyers in other places like South America and cold weather regions (many of whom have family here) did not have the same opportunity to buy a vacation condo or second home . Now they can . A Porsche fits quite well in a new condo .

i've seen at least 10k under msrp. really depends on the dealers inventory. go there end of the month/quarter.
personally, i'd get a 09 instead. it'll hold value better and you'll enjoy the added HP and updated technology such as touchscreen nav. if you are getting a tip, you absolutely should wait for the PDK. either way, i'd not take a discount even at 20% since the base 09 will hv same hp as an S. how could you pass that up???

Shop around and you might be surprised at how much discount you'll be able to get. Many potential buyers are waiting for '09s and dealers will be willing to move '08s. The big dealer in Kansas (advertises in AutoWeek) and Hendrick in NC discount a lot and others in CA do the same but you might have to get it shipped, which will add to the price. But you can use their discounts to negotiate locally...worth a try!
