I read it while reading about the new engine. The mechanical engineer stated that the next 911 is not called the 998, and a few other rumors/posts have been hinting at it being called the 991.
Theories for the model designations:
-engine designation (M96 for 996/986, M97 engine for 997): this is debunked by the fact that the new 997.2 with the new 9A1 engine is still called a 997 (but it supposedly works for the 991
)
-Crazy german mad scientist at Porsche wanted to change to 991 since everyone figured out it was a 998!
