How many Miles before New battery??

I have 33k on my 05 S and I think it's the original battery, starts are taking a few more cranks than I think they should. Is it time?

I am on my second battery and already seems to be a little slow starting.

I think battery life a function of time, load & temperature; not miles driven. Typically most automotive wet cell batteries in vehicles that possess a lot of electronics (like Porsche) have an average life of 4 to 6 years. Certainly some fail before that and some last longer.

Also, making sure the battery is properly maintained and not overloaded or 'run down' help the battery's life span.

My 2005 997S is on it's original battery; approaching 4 yrs of service. I use my battery tender when my car sits for longer than 4 days. It cranks to a start very quickly.

Chances are that time will be the most inopportune time.

Was told to arm the alarm even when parked in your garage. Supposedly the systems draw less juice when the car is armed. Dealer also told me that the battery would be replaced under warranty assuming the car is driven at least 6k miles per year.

Just replaced the battery at 31K & 3 years with the Rennline/Oddesey setup. The car was in for detailing prior to this and had to be jumped twice. Over the last month or two, it cranked slow after the starter was heat soaked, so it looks like the stock battery was done for. I have done a lot of short trips and the car is used as a daily driver, including winters.

My car is only about a year and a half old and for the last 6 mo's or so the car cranks slowly which makes the car sound kinda crappy while it cranks (the starter motor is not the most refined sounding to begin with).

Change the battery and or put it on a trickle charger.

My battery which I just replaced in the last 6 months was starting to do the same. Then I left the lights and drained it to dead. (Why these cars don't have auto on/off lights I will never understand).

Had to get the windows reset by the dealer and my dealer said it needed more charging.

So I put it in on the charger and everything is fine.

The bottom line to all this rambling is I think the car runs noticeably better on a correctly charged battery.

So I will follow AP 997S advice and put it on the charger if I don't drive it frequently enough or long enough.

I didn't mean to wait till it's dead...I tried charging mine and then when I heard it slow way down, I drove to the new battery...

Take it to a reputable shop and have the battery "load tested". You'll get a quick answer as to whether or not the battery needs to be replaced.
