Buy as much as you can comfortably afford. I'd take the TT if price wasn't an issue.

Thank you for your thoughts. I think the people who vote 09S are in the minority, but I'm fine with that.

I thoroughly enjoy my 07S because it is everything I wanted (color and interior) and not items that I can not use or even want on my car. This time I wanted Speed Yellow (not Grey, Silver, or Black), Standard leather (not Full), Sport shifter, PCCB brakes, Interior trim, etc., etc. I did not want Nav. (I like my Garmin Nuvi), no PDK, no iPod (next persons problem) or other items that a dealer might spec to help it move off his showroom floor. So, it obviously is very personal. I could be happy with any Pcar. But, for me the good fortune of having a car built to suit my needs and desires is more important than horsepower and torque numbers. My current 07S has more potential than I can use on public roads. If I am lucky enough to have future build it will be very different, but it will fulfill my needs at that time.
Good luck with your choice. You win either way. Also, you may want to read the cover story in the new (Oct.) Excellence magazine.

-modding voids factory warranty

-turbo is laggy, it's heavier, it's awd

-if the question was 09 Carrera S or 997 GT3, i'd pick the GT3.

-none of you have driven the new 3.8 yet

i don't understand the turbo envy.

The weight of the AWD addreses the Hp which enhances safety comcerns voiced on this thread. The lag can be reduced . Modding splits a factory warranty where a non mod issue is covered . Many tuners have been in business long enough to stand behind their work .
Lastly --there's no guarantee that even Porsche will make a stock repair easy . I can point to posts of cars which were 100 percent stock and the owners were not happy with how the repais were handled.

In short --how a person gets his car fixed hinges on how well he can negotiate . .
As for "Tubo envy" --I feel all of these cars are greatly respected .

Never question yourself as to why you make a car selection which may counter others . I don't have a shred of doubt as to why I bought my Turbo .

I can line up all my reasons . I stand behind each of them . But the very basic answer is as follows:

If I want to drive 20MPH next to a 997S --I can
If I want to drive 60 MPH next to a 997S --I can
If we take both cars and run them 0-150 --He can't keep up. With 700 Hp --the gap widens .

Just knowing that --even if its of no street value --was enough to choose the Turbo.

Mary Ann or Ginger?

seems like a GT3 should be a consideration.

I like my 997S. i thought about a turbo. for the same money & options, i'd go with the turbo, but that's never the case.

i also like the PDK a lot....which i know is controversial.

I'll pick the 09 997S in your case, being well aware that the turbo is the faster car.

I know that cars are toys and are not considered an investment, but the depreciation of the 996TT is scary. If history is going to repeat itself, you can always pick up a 997TT for half price in 4-5 years time. Knowing that the GT1 engine block is so reliable, it will be a bargain at that time.

I can easily afford a 997TT, but my club coupe is so rare (only 50 made) that I have no intention to upgrade. There will always be faster cars than mine anyway.

Adding a GT3 to the stable will be another story...

[QUOTE][the depreciation of the 996TT is scary/QUOTE]

A used 997 Turbo has some depreciation priced in . A new 09 997S does not and discounts on that car are iffy at best.

I do agree that he ought to get the car that he wants and if it happens to be a 997S then that's what it ought to be .

A gt3 was a consideration and honestly I prefer that car over the turbo. Keep in mind, I admit I'm a complete amateur in the Porsche world, but that is my "feeling." I've never been a fan of turbos, regardless of how incredibly fast they are. Something about an 8400 redline will always excite me and I'll sacrifice horsepower for that.

For my reasons stated and the fact that a used turbo is about 20k more than my optioned 09S (which I probably could afford, but it's definitely more than I would like to spend), I'm probably sticking with a 09S. For all you turbo owners, please drive slow so I can look at the side of your car and not just the tail lights.

If you want a Porsche for the name, get a 997S
If you want a Porsche for the performance , get a 997TT

Its really that simple

That's not only inaccurate, but presumptious. Please enlighten us how you came to that "simple" conclusion.

I believe the new S runs the 'ring almost as fast as a tt. If the S had a gt1 engine I'd be tempted!..........but it doesn't.

7.40 = Turbo at the ring
7.50 - 09 997S at the Ring (PDK)
7.59 = Current 997S at the ring

Different drivers of course --many variables-- but a win is a win!!!
