thanks good to know. I figured I shouldn't leave any vacumn lines open / exposed.

I haven't noted any performance loss with the open design, but then again I have not tried a KN back-to-back with an EVOMS unit- is there any real world data to back this up? I'd like to see some concrete info before subscribing to the "Worst" club.

997 vs. 996 - the kit fits both cars. As noted, you need to either omit the small bracket to left side of air box or remove, flip it around, drill another hole in air box and attach to floor of engine compartment. Everything else is same / same. (You'd think KN would have figured this out and started marketing for 997's - double their customer base..)

no. The 'gundo' exhaust hack is when you weld on a pipe connecting inlet and outlet pipes of your stock exhaust to produce a nice after market exhaust tone for about $100 bucks. Another best bang for the buck. It's only for sound. Do a search and you'll find a nice write up by Gundo himself.
I got the K&N for sound as well and this combo just kicks a$$. I'm not interested in any tiny power increases you really can't feel or use by spending mega bucks on other systems just to say you did. That's pretty lame. If I want real power increase I'll get the super charger or the twin turbo. Just my two cents. Cheers. I'm super happy now.

No, the check engine light didn't come on at all for either mods. It's been over two month now and the car is a daily driver. No issues to report what so ever. I go to cars and coffee every chance I get and when we go cruising afterwards, other enthusiasts compliment the sound of exhaust hack / k&n intake all the time. It's fun to see their facial expressions when they all guess wrong and I tell them how cheaply I did the whole thing. Cheers.

I agree the K&N with my PSE sounds insane especially after 5k rpm.

Thanks for the advice!

Installed K&N intake from Vivid with the great advice on this thread. I used it all and ended up with a pretty clean install. It deepened the tone a little more than the BMC filter. It sounds great with the Techart race mufflers. It screams over 5K, but not annoying. I can definitely feel improved throttle response and some torque gain. With the softronic flash, mufflers and a little altitude my car was looking for this mod.

What did you guys end up doing with the vacuum line? For now I just zip tied it to the MAF wire.

What are your concerns with heavy rain impact on filter or worse? With the my rear wing it is a pretty straight shot into engine compartment, or through fresh air snorkel.

I just installed an EVO intake on my 05 C2S this weekend. It took me 20 minutes and if I had to do it again it would only take me 10 minutes. I can definitely hear the difference at 5k RPM and above, it sounds really good. Ok, I have to confess, I REALLY like the way it sounds, it motivates me to floor it more every chance I get. There is better throttle response on the high end, when I step on it there isn't as much hesitation.

I'm going to skip the headers because I don't think the stock ones are bad, and I'm going to add the exhaust. I think between the intake and exhaust it will sound amazing. Is it better than the K&N? I can't say for sure since I haven't had both but I'm happy with the mod.

I have a great connection if someone wants a good deal on the EVO intake, just PM me, I'm not allowed to post it publicly, he'll make you a VERY good deal.

If you have a tiptronic you must hook up the vaccuum line, it is used for sensing automatic kick-down I think. On my 996 I used one of those universal "Tree shaped" drillbits to make the proper size hole. You may need to pick up an appropriate sized rubber grommet and plastic vaccuum fitting. I placed mine about 4 inches forward of the throttle body on the side of the KN pipe.
Be sure you do the drilling of the KN of the car- You don't want any plastic shavings left inside the intake and getting sucked in to the engine.

I've never had issue with water, bu then again we don't get much rain here in SoCal

The K&N kit is the number 1 selling intake for the Porsche Carrera. We have sold over 300 units and K&N probably close to 500+. We helped them roll out this product about 3 years ago to bring competition to the EVO intake. The K&N has been tested on the dyno many times by us and other vendors to actually make some great power. We have seen gains of 15HP in the power curve. One thing you will notice with the K&N is quicker throttle response. Because the intake uses a cone style filter in the cold induction box, the sound really improves the driving sensation of the Porsche. Also with the K&N you get the amazing customer support of us and K&N as a company. We have NEVER had any issues with the 997 including "MAF" problems.

Call me to discuss!

Thanks for posting the info Dan- I agree there some misconceptions surrounding the KN unit. Only issues I've heard of are with very early 996 ('99) and MAF issues- Which could be attributed to the MAF being old? Data on this is not clear.

I was wondering about one thing though, on KN site (just checked), they do not have 997 listed for fitment. When I transferred over the KN from my 996 to my 997, I noticed the MAF screws on 997 do not fit the KN intake mounting threads. Also, the left side mounting tab by hood latch does not fit per instructions, must me slightly modified.
I had to hunt down some small machine screws and used a longer L bracket for the left tab mount. Not a big deal though.
Now obviously my KN kit was puchased for 996, so wondering if KN has an updated kit for 997 and will update their site?
http://www.knfilters.com/search/prod...x?Prod=57-7000

Overall the 996 kit fits great and works great on my 997- It is a super mod for the low price. You'll just be cussing a bit trying to track down some small screws to secure the MAF- Or maybe my kit just didn't come with the screws accidentally?

lol that's funny Kurt, I'm not that great with DIY so I went for the EVO intake instead. That's the price I pay for not being handy I guess.

So the warning should erase after a while, or does it need to be manually erased by doing that to the vacuum?
