The CEL light went on because the customer installed the MAF backwards. If you install it correctly this will not happen. Once we turned the MAF to the correct position, the intake worked correctly and the CEL went away. To quick clear codes if you do not have a OBDII Diagnostic tool, you can remove the battery terminals for 5 minutes. It is always best to have the code cleared by a Scan Tool as some times hard codes will appear.

I just had the EVO-MS intake installed and it looks fantastic. The MAF connects to it with no issues. I have the dry element newer version and have had no issues in the ~30miles I've done since it got installed. Coupled with GIAC ECU and AWE full exhaust, its sounds ridiculous. Above 5000RPM, it just screams. The engine actually feels even smoother and less harsh.

Here's one slightly used V-flow being sold for cheap at ebay,
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/99-04-Porsche-911-V-flow-Cold-Air-Intake-996-Carrera_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ72Q3a1205Q7c39 Q3a1Q7c66Q3a2Q7c65Q3a12Q7c240Q3a1318QQ_trksidZp328 6Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem130264199190QQitemZ13026419 9190

Ebay is giving 10% off on Paypal purchases before 10/31 with coupon code CFALLSAVINGS10P. So you'll be able to purchase the intake much cheaper. Enjoy!

I'm new on this forum, only bought my C4S labor day weekend. Just got the mods over the last 3 weeks. Pics/sound video coming soon. The terracotta/black two tone interior is pic worthy too. Stay tuned!

Go with the EVOMS intake. I've had nothing but great results with it. I've had it since it came out. Good luck!

Love my EVOMS intake, and most importantly, it was easy to install. My contact still has 1 intake (brand new) for 997/997s for a lot cheaper than retail. PM me if you want it!

I am sure that the Evoms intake is a great piece, and it is more attractive IMO. I have had the K&N unit on for about three weeks and it works and sounds great. No MAF problems. It is obviously a more economical way to go, but I suspect much of the negative feedback on these intakes is due to improper installation of the MAF sensor on the new intake. I did the install and could see how it can happen easily. Personally I would not be afraid of the K&N (obviously I wasn't). Vivid has had a lot of experience with these and they swear by them. If cost is of any concern, I think the K&N is a great value for essentially the same effect on sound/performance from what I have read.

K&N Filter

Just did the K&N Intake/Filter this week. The install was a bit of a pain in the a$$. 90% of it could have been pre-assembled. Trying to figure out what bolt goes where when you have never assembled one and only have instructions is annoying.

The L bracket on the left side of the box would not sit flush enough to the latch area to drill a hole and bolt it there per the instructions. Fortunately it was just the right length to the base of the engine compartment. I just drilled and tapped a hole down there. The design seems good- it uses the stock snorkel as well as a box to ensure that air is only drawn from the outside.

It definitely screams above 5K. With the gundo hack it is a bit loud but lots of fun. This is my toy, after all.

I also got a pasm warning that cleared by itself quickly. The vacuum line had already been plugged with a screw at the time of disassembly so I doubt that was it.

2 observations. The engine stalled once on the initial test drive after pulling off the gas when I had it wound up to 6500rpm. This hasn't happened again. The engine sounds great and does seem to rev a little easier.

Also, the gas mileage is lower. Initially below 15mpg which I only have seen during track sessions. Now it is up to 18mpg with mixed driving. I have only driven 1/2 tank on it so it is hard to be sure if this is real. The MAF sensor was installed in the correct direction- it would be easy to get it backwards, though.

What did you guys see for gas mileage before and after? Got a road trip this weekend so it should become clear if there really is a change. Maybe I've just been gunning it!

My understanding is that when installing an intake such as this the ECU must "relearn" and change various perimeters to account for the newly changed amount and temperature of air rushing into the engine. This is why intake manufacturers often instruct you to pull the battery connections to hasten the ECU's relearning cycle. Otherwise the ECU will relearn the new intake characteristics but it will take time. I would imagine that your mpg will return to normal after a number of warm up cycles. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable than me will chime in with a better answer.

To Doc, mileage:

Ads for changing out air boxes can be paraphrased as "more cooler air allows more gas = more power." Obviously more gas = lower mileage. When I did mine a couple of years ago ( along with the whole manifold, cats, mufflers, flash, etc. routine ) my ' normal driving' - 55-80 mph - trip mileage dropped about 13 % which is still true today.

Kuhl,

I c u read my post...LOL..... As most r aware on the 997 forum, u get about zero gain with this mod. It was sarcasm.......
