Neither one will give you any noticable power gains, but the Evo will sound better.

I worry about longterm engine protection with non oem filters. Read or heard anything about this? NorthV. others? Gerry

I've had my KN kit on two pcars so far (2002 C2 and 2006 C2 Cab), no probs and great sound. It's a great buy for the price. I can't see justifying the extra $ for the evoms with no perf gain. Either one will make you happy. MAF issues seem to be isolated to pre-facelift 996 cars, particularly 99's (at least from what I've read). KN filters are very good, probably one of the best out there.

so hows that airbox assemble going for ya? lol - that is the only PITA about the KN kit

That and lining up the intake snorkel- you'll have to use a couple extra screws to secure it after you've lined it up.

Be sure you removed battery power first before getting started, and after you're done give it a mile for the ECU to adjust.
you can remove the MAF security screws from the stock airbox with a set of needle node pliers, grab the edges and twist.

North,
I installed my evoms 3 days ago and dyno it with a 75hp gain. I then installed a plenum with some mufflers and picked up another 75hp

Thumbs up

Install took little over a hour. It was straight forward except for couple improvisations. On step 16A the L bracket with the heat shield had no place to bolt on to on the latch support bracket. The heat shield was bolted on firmly by 4 other bolts so I decided to leave that bracket out. I'll keep my eyes on it but it'll be more than fine.
Other issue was once I reconnected the battery and fired up the car, PASM failure warning light came on. I fixed this by capping off the vacumn nipple that used to attach to the stock air box and warning light went away. The vacumn nipple I'm refering to attaches to the helmholtz actuator which gives you that nice sound when you press the sport button.
The car sounds incredible now with this mod and my 'gundo' hacked exhaust. I absolutely love it. Best bang for the buck.
I'll give some more detailed impressions later as I have to run for my second birthday dinner this weekend. If anyone has any reservations about this K&N send me the extra $$ for other intakes and get the K&N. You'll feel better knowing you spent same amount of $$ for same performance /sound gains. Cheers.

The K&N is THE WORST because it is vented to the hot engine compartment thus your engine will be breathing HOT AIR.

The Evo is good and the new Evo's use a dry filter element and will not hurt the Mass Air Flow Sensor. The Koni Challange Series 997's use the Evo or the stock air box. The stock air box is a cold air design too and much better than the K&N design.

The PASM light came on because you disconnected the battery and it went out after you re-connected the battery and the system went through it's check. The air intake nor the vacum tube to actuate the hemholtz has nothing to do with your shocks (is PASM).
