Need used Carrera S pricing advice!

Any thoughts on what a really good deal on an '05 Carrera S with: mileage under 20k, full leather, sport chrono, bose, adaptive seats, and certified pre-owned should run? Are we cracking through the $60k price yet?

10K miles = the magic mileage number for a priistine 05 S

Under 10K miles you may not crack that 60K
BUT --if that car has more than 10K it is all the negotiation leverage you need to insist that it cost less than 60.

Thanks. Any truth to the rumors that 997's will probably drop in value once the new models hit the showrooms and people starting trading up, cars come off lease, etc.? Did this happen back in late '04 to the 996's when the 997's were hitting the showrooms?

While one may be able to draw parallels, I think it's near impossible to predict values in our current market.

Everything is being affected.

I was today stunned today to find out that a 2006 530i I bought 2/1/2 years for $62K is worth about $43K with 26K miles and the car is cherry!

Cars are not holding their values.

Put your $ into real estate!

Porsche played this well in my opinion . In Aug 04 (the 997 launch) the 996 took a hit and were piling fast in used losts but the economy was different and the car the new car was a redesign . This is merely a facelift in comparison . Plus Porsche in the past did not have an "S" model until the 997 .

If Porsche lowers production numbers and the new car which when optioned is priced high in this economy --my guess is that your window of buying opportunity will be limited in terms of time .

You would have to find your used car by before January IMO.

I've been in the market for the past 3 months, and I finally got my first Porsche.

If you're looking under 60K, you're looking at private party with over 20K miles.

If you're looking at certified with less than 15K miles, the best that can be done is 65K especially with the new full coverage warranty as of August 1, 2008.

Good luck with your search.

Stupid question - what's the new CPO warranty about? Just that it's now the same as the factory warranty?

Since allocation has been cut 40% for the US in 09 and pricing a slight increase, I have seen 06 07 CS/ CAB's under 10k miles holding up well. I agree that if your going to buy used, now is the time. If one waits until march 09, you might not find the car your looking for pay a little more.

What about CPO cars vs non-CPO. In an '05 S how much do you think this is really worth? Hearing that the CPO process now costs $3k plus whatever it takes to get the car up to specs. With the reliability of these cars I am thinking a CPO'd '05 should only get a couple thousand more than a non-CPO'd car? Thoughts?

A non CPO car poses an extra risk and may create some extra homework . It's hit or miss . Sometimes a private sale consists of an owner who really cared for his car and other times it's not .

I would lean on the side of caution and have the car inspected before buying it . A few hours and a few hundred bucks can offer a wealth of information about a car . Peace of mind is priceless IMO.

Just spend the extra 3K and get a CPO. If not every time you hear something off with the car you have to wonder? Is this going to cost me 3K..... I should have just gotten the CPO.

As other can tell you Porsche's are pretty low maintenance cars when they are running good, BUT when something does go wrong it ends up costing a pretty penny. Remember ITS A HIGH END CAR end repairs will be on the HIGH END.

Also if you are financing the car, the 3K for CPO will be spread over the life of the loan. If its a 48 month lease @ 5.25%, you will be paying around $78 extra a month ( $70.50+$7.50 interest expense).

$78/month is a great deal for peace of mind on a $60+K asset.

YOU'LL EITHER PAY NOW OR PAY LATER. YOU DECIDE.

my 2 cents.

no way you can even get 43k for these cars.
550s can be purchased for that money.
my e60 525i optioned to 58k can't even bring in 26k today. :-(
prices has dropped beyond imagination.
but the good part is the e60s are such good cars that you can just keep it in the stable.

:-)
