What is A Incline Sensor in Porsche cars?
#17
Guys, I found it out. Yes it's the porsche version of hill assist which works just like BMW and Audi's. However, they were originally a standard equipment on Carrera GT. Now they will be standard on 09 Carrera both manual & PDK. Not something very fancy and important just to help making cars easier to drive around I guess.

And to keep people from rolling back into other cars with their nice shiney new 09's... With the hills here in the Puget Sound, its a 'nice to have' feature.
So I'd call it 'hill assist' rather than 'incline sensor'.. just based on what it does.

The hill assist will only be available in the new '09 997.2 911s. Current 997s do not have it.
997s and 996s do have an incline sensor. That is used to measure the car's tilt for alarm purposes and as an input sensor used in the control electronics of tiptronic transmissions, to instruct those to shift down when driving downhill (a very interesting feature, BTW).

I think it might that feature where if you are stopping on a up steep hill you can let go your brake pedal and the car won't roll back. (tiptronic). My wife loves that feature because there is a intersection where she needs to make a left turn uphill. She feels safer that the car is not rolling back while she can keeps her foot on the gas and not on the brake and not worrying tha tthe car would roll backward.
