AWE Tuning Exhaust

Anyone have experience with the AWE exhaust on 997 C2 NB?

What are the actual performance gains?

I really don't care for the sound, but 2k better by me some hp.

Tks,
J

As far as mufflers I have personally tried, the only ones I verified on the dyno to absolutely provide noticeable HP and TQ gains on my 996 were the ones from www.afterhoursautomotive.com . Of course, the AfterHours pipes are louder and made differently than typical can-type mufflers so maybe it's not a valid comparison.

I have not tried AWE's but have heard positive things about them.

Would be great to see some different dyno results from other pcar owners here with aftermarket mufflers vs. stock mufflers, I've always wondered what kind of gains others got with the different mufflers on NA cars- Most of the time it is a sound-only mod, but I'm sure some designs are more efficient than others.

AWE is on this forum so they would probably have some info.

J,
I think on the AWE site it shows the dyno with muffler, mufflers and cats, and muffler cats and headers. Great product. Waiting on cats($). Sound with mufflers is good. Not too loud. With evoms at 5-7k pure music. Mike at AWE will take care of u.

And we can help...

J, please visit this link. Also, check the archives on 6speed. There is a TON of info on here about us and our exhaust. Of all of our Porsche systems, it is by far the most popular.

J,

I have the AWE Cats in my car, I would definitely put them on again. My car rev's so much better and smoother then with the stock cats.

You will feel this mod for sure. If budget is an issue, I would do the cats, then headers, then mufflers (although cat's and headers add most of the gains).

If you want more power, get the high flow cats with the mufflers. Both give sound, cats give the real power.

exhaust

I agree, having tried several exhaust setups over the last 2 years (but no comparison dyno data), I "felt" the sports cats more than the headers or mufflers. With all 3 changed out - the car really seems to rev quickly and pull steadily and sounds wonderful. But it is pretty loud. I am waking up many of the neighbors and am having to tone it way down.

I too was waking people up, went back to my PSE mufflers (from Evo mufflers) and my kids didn't wake up at 5:30 when I left for work! Wife stopped complaining!

What do you guys think of the Fabspeed vs. AWE?

Which would you choose for sound and performance?

I don't have either on my car but from the examples that I've seen of each exhaust on 997 cars, there is no comparison.

The AWE sounds better and looks to be a much better made product.

Moreover, several local Porsche specialists that I respect a lot all agree that the Fabspeed products do not hold up that well.

FWIW.

NORTHVAN AND SUMMOBOY when you say loud is it louder than lambo with after market exhaust. my set up doesn't seem loud to me at all. I even have the super loud version mufflers

I have AWE cats & mufflers for a year, they're a bit loud, very loud in parking garages.

Hey Abdullah, my setup was very loud - mostly at WOT. And as Shicago writes - extremely loud in parking garages. Might be the tubi / AWE combo. That does not mean loud was bad, it is such a sweet sound.. There is nothing like a gnarling wailing P-car..

I've read all the comments..

So.. Cats + Muffler system = very loud - which is something I definitely don't want.

Muffler system = sweet purr?

Is this correct?

Tks,
J

I'd go either 2 ways:
First - AWE 200 cell cats and stock mufflers, or
second - stock cats and tubi, AWE, etc. mufflers.
Not too loud, but very nice.
