OC Pcar's 997 Carrera S Cabriolet: New Car Detail

Most of you guys are familiar with the New Car Detail that we do for our clients. Contrary to misconceptions, a new car is seldom free of imperfection. That's not the huge cause for concern though. The reason why clients have us do this level of detail on a new car is so the dealer does as little as possible when it comes to detailing.

Most cars are almost flawless when they leave the factory. It's what goes on from leaving the factory to when the car is in your driveway that is of concern to us OCD enthusiasts. From the salt air that is working its magic from sailing oversees, to the rail dust from transportation across the country, these are the aspects of a new car few consider.

Without further a do, here's your baby Eric. Apologies for taking so long to post this up.

Initial Condition

As you can see, Porsche does an excellent job of protecting everything that could be damaged

Not a single swirls or scratch in the paint. You'll seldom find paint like this on the showroom floor or the dealer lot. You gotta get to it be fore they do

The tires have a waxy coating when new from the tire manufacturer. We get that coating off to get to the rubber itself.

No harsh chemical used here. pH balanced, all-natural Zymol Wheel Cleaner, soft Belgian horse hair brush for the face of the wheels, and a gentle brush without exposed metal surfaces for the inside of the wheels and wheel arches

Initial rinse to get most of the dirt off. You must take your time here to turn the dirt into a softer texture. Most people simply rinse to get the surface wet and start washing. The dirt, if not broken down, is microscopic rocks that begin scratching the soft and pristine Porsche paint

A gentle soap, P21S, that is pH balanced is used to clean the paint. We only use 100% All-Natural Australian Lambs Wool wash mitts for all our details. After every 15-20 washes, we simply discard the mitt

Final rinse with de-ionized water to assure no water spotting

Our own microfiber drying cloth replaces the outdated and paint scratching chamois

Paint contamination begins. This process removes all the rail dust, salt, etc. that washing could not remove. These impurities are embedded in the clear coat and need to be removed safely using clay

You can see adhesive left behind from pulling the protective film from the factory

These lines are made because the glue at the edge of the protective film is exposed to all the dirt and grimme. As you can see, washing did not remove this

Claying process is complete. This is the residue left behind from the clay lubricant

As you can see, even the glass surfaces are decontaminated using clay

The glue residue is safely removed without scratching or marring the clear coat

The paint is then cleaned using Isopropyl Alcohol to remove clay lubricant and give us a true indication of the paint's surface

After careful assessment, there was no need for machine polishing of the finish. This is why our clients utilize our services. When you start with a clean canvas, not much products are needed to bring out the true depth and clarity of Porsche paint. We used Zymol HD-Cleanse for this step to polish the paint and prepare it for wax

Zymol HD-Cleanse is applied by hand using our own microfiber applicator

The polish is removed using a soft waffle-weave microfiber polishing cloth

The clarity, depth, and richness of the paint is eveident here. If only you could feel the paint as well. It's smoother than sillk

All this just to prepare for the wax. The wax of choice for this detail level was Zymol Destiny. This 8oz $650.00 wax has some of the rarest and purest ingredients a wax can have. Well worth the price in our opinion

Zymol Destiny is applied by bare hands. The wax is massaged into the paint, allowed to cure for up to 5 minutes, and gently removed using a soft dual-pile microfiber towel

The depth and clarity is further enhanced. The protection that Destiny is able to deliver can last for up to six months. Notice how much clearer, sharper, and richer the palm tree looks compared to the HD Cleanse shot a few pictures up

The interior has all the protective wrapping removed and is cleaned using a gentle, non-soap interior cleaner

Once the interior is cleaned, we then condition all leather surfaces using an all-natural leather conditioner from Zymol called Treat. This product has a soft satin look and does not take away the new car scent

Conditioning a new car's interior is crucial for protecting the leather. From the moment body oils and acids begin making contact with the leather, the deterioration process begins. Conditioning the leather with a high quality all-natural conditioner assures a long and healthy life for the leather

Thanks for all your work Moe, The car still looks almost new...Quick question I put the new GT3 bumper on that was painted by Kye and have the guys from Premier coming down next week to wrap it. Is there anything you need to do prior to them coming out? Clay or wax it? Thanks again Moe

You should have some zymol hd-cleanse. Just polish using that and apply the field glaze liquid carnauba. That should take care of any imperfections before the film is applied.

You simply say "if you touch it, I won't buy it" Just let them know you only want them to do a PDI and leave everything else as-is. Don't wash it, wax it, dust it, etc. Leave all the plastic and protective coverings in place. They'll think you're nuts, but let them know it's a deal breaker of they do anything to it detailing wise.

Cost varies..our New Car preps range from $525-$2200. Time varies from 7 hours to 2 days.

Hi Moe -

Great job, as always.

Quick question... is "treat" appropriate for Porsche's "natural" leather as well?

Thanks.

Christian

Hi Christian. Zymol Treat is safe and works well on all types of leather. It was originally intended for natural, un-treated leather, but we've found it works well on all types of leather.
