Which one? 08 or 09?
I would say that the most important factor would be whether or not you want PDK. If you're deciding between an '09 6 speed and an '08 6 speed, then there remains only one question:
>Are the subtle aesthetic updates on the '09 important to you?
If it comes down to an '09 6-speed and an '08 6-speed, for me it would be a no-brainer decision--an '08 at big savings or even better, a lightly used, practically new '07 with a good 30K+ savings (assuming a heavily optioned model).
The fact is, right now you might think you're going to keep this car forever, but I almost guarantee that a year from now or less, your eyes are going to be wandering. You're going to take a much smaller hit on an '07 (plus, you're going to have enjoyed a car that's a lot more heavily optioned than if you had ordered an '09 from scratch)
My $0.02....

You explained my own internal reasoning, better than me

Go 06/07 IMO if your not doing an 09. Because once the dealer is in the rear view mirror of a "new 08" your basically at par with a low milage 06/07 down the road...sans the warranty.
Wow, lots of views and comments. I appreciate everyone's opinions. I think right now I'm going to lean more towards either an 07 w/ low miles or haggle the crap out of an 08.
Thanks everyone!!
BTW, I use to be a HUGE BMW fan, not anymore

many good ideas/suggestions. If you're spending this kind of money, its what you want features and depending on how long you'll keep it, potential resale value.
IMHO, I would only buy an S, given the feature that is standard, like increase in horsepower, etc. that you can never get on a base model. All other options, such as 19" wheels, zenon lights, sport wheel, etc. are all able to be ordered. The net $ difference when both are equal in options is the bump in HP and Torque for about 3-4K difference.
For this difference, it was worth it to me - including uptick from base model on resale value.

For me the S models are not worth the 10k up-price. Added HP, of questionable value to me. I'm getting worse gas mileage for a few extra HP that don't matter to me.. after all the 09 base has the HP of the 08 S, right? The 19" wheels.... don't even want them. If I could get an S and get some money back for downgrading to 19" wheels, I'd like that option... same for the brakes. The 09S doesn't get me anything I want, but costs me more money.
Now for the 08, the S may well be worth it, because they came with the Xenon lights and washers as standard.. and that is worth a couple grand... but it sounds like the features don't matter to you at all, just having a 911 is what you are after, so get the best deal on a good quality 07.
Wandering eyes? Not hardly. Some folks do want to be in the latest thing every couple of years. Some of us don't . My current ride is 14 years old. I never had the urge to trade it in for a newer model. Every year I drive it is more money that stays in my pocket. The only reason I'd trade it in are the modern internal features of newer cars like integrated bluetooth, nav systems, and thats about it. I'm perfectly happy with my deluxe cassette am/fm radio. ;-)
The new car will be new. For me the 'new' is an important feature. With any used car, you never know how the car has been driven. If someone drives a care for 2 years and then sells it to get a new car... think about how attached they were to that car and how well they likely took care of it, knowing they would not be keeping it for 10+ years. Sure, it may be in good shape, but knowing no one has abused it is worth the cost of a new ride. That and I can get it exactly how I want it. No Compromises.

I would WAIT !!!
If I was in yoir shoes --
If I bought an 08 C2S --I would always wonder aboit the 09 .
If i bought the 09 --I would wonder aboit the S
Waiting --gives you the chance to buy either a discounted 09 C2S in another year (when the 2010 models are nearing) or even better -- an 07 997tt used which can beat all of the choices IMO.

The S model is worth the extra $$$, especially if you want the PASM sport suspension which requires the 19s (If not, stick to the non-S). Then the car is really only about $7K more than the non-S. Figure you will get about $5K more for an S over non-S on resale, and the difference is closer to $2K to drive an S, at least by my fuzzy math.
I'd agree with that.
If you were going to get a base model, and get 19" wheels and the SPASM, then you have covered enough of the extra cost to justify the S model.
Well guys, finally pulled the trigger today. Bought an 08 Black on black C2S today. Local dealer give me a tremendous deal (over $12K off MSRP) and also paid the remaining 6 month lease payments on my BMW M Roadster. When you add all that up, the savings is incredible!!! Now I got to go and read up on all the functions of the PCM
Just drove an '09
One of the launch models, Carrera with PDK. My current car is a '07 TT with 6-speed, so I am not that familiar with automatics on P-cars, but the new PDK seemed very quick to shift and smooth. The chassis seems very tight, and the engine might be a little throatier than the previous models. One thing I noticed was that the std. interior seems to scream PLASTIC. I don't seem to recall this sense when driving std. interior '07/'08's. Just me 2-cents.
