Question Which one? 08 or 09?

Guys,

I'm in the market for my first Porsche. I'm faced with a really tough decision at this point and hope you guys can help me by making some suggestions or advice.

I can either get an 08 C2S approximately $90K MSRP or get a new 09 C2 w/ PDK for around $85K. The discount on the 08 is definitely there and can probably get at least $10K off. I was told if I ordered a 09, I could get maybe $2500-$3000 off MSRP.

What would you do if you had to make this decision???

Sorry, but if you're smart enough to have the money to be spending that much on a new car, you're smart enough to make this decision. You need to research the various models, try each of them, evaluate the dozens of options to chose from and see which ones are important to you and which give you the best value for what is important to you. As you may know, or will find out, there are many models, each with a list of dozens of options that make each car fairly unique, and which causes huge spreads in list prices of new cars. Getting dozens of opinions from people who have their own needs and priorities won't likely help you very much. Much better to spend the time learning more about your options and evaluating them against your own criteria, not those of others. For most of us, this is just the beginning of the fun. The rest comes after you make the purchase and start enjoying the car you have selected based on thorough research.

I actually had the opportunity to test drive the 09 C2S w/ PDK. Amazing piece of machinery. However, the 09 C2S w/ PDK is too pricey for me. This is why I'm looking at the 09 C2 or 08 C2S.

I was told that the 09 C2 w/ pdk is just as fast as an 08 C2S. Any truth to this? If this is the case, would is there any advantage to buying an 08 C2S???

Thanks!

Its really a question of features. Is you value and want the factory built in support for Bluetooth phone interfacing, ipod/flash/usb interfacing, the new PCM3 touchscreen and navigation system, if you want the adaptive cornering lights, or other 09 specific features then the 2009 is for you. If those things are not important to you, save a huge chunk of change and buy a 2008.

Theres no real reason to get a 08. Save some coin a pick up a 07. There should be be a good selection out there. Im going to get the 997.2, but wait at least a year for Porsche to get the bugs.

I got my C2s back in late 05, I find Porsche long list of options confusing. The upside is it does let you customized your car, but downside is those little options sure add up quickly. Because it was the first time I deal with Porsche, and did not arm myself with much knowledge about the car/model roll out dates/options etc, I was a little disappointed with the end result. If I was better informed, I would have gone for the C4s or Targa instead of the 2S. And I think the sales person could have done a better job to educate about their various product. I am in a much better position for the next Porsche.

I'd take the 08S over an 09 C2 if you can get 10% off the 08 and can absolutely get at least 10% on the 08.

if u're going to keep it for a long time meaning at least 5 years then the 10k discount makes more sense. otherwise more discount doesn't mean a better deal. u'll get hammered at resale anyway. might as well get a newer car.

I can't help but feel that if you get the regular Carrera, you'll wind up wishing you'd held out for the S. Also, it's a new engine in the 09, and Porsche's are notorious for having mechanical bugs in the first year of a new car. Yes, it's a 997, but there's a lot of new tech in there.

In that case, I would pick the '09 C2 Coupe.

I agree... so much that I picked up an 06 C4S. My reason was to wait out the FL and see what the next few years bring.>ie:998

Listen, everyone goes through this. keninirvine comments make sense. You should do your research and choose what makes sense for you.

My $.02- Look at an 06/07 with under 10k miles if you don't have to have the new PCM/ipod ect and the extra 30HP. Go with 09 if the later is important to you. These cars are so fast, I am truly amazed by the power and feel of the car that the 09 extra 30HP wasn't worth the extra $$ I would have to spend. Factor in the 12% depreciation a new year Porsche usually gets it hit with,it was a huge swing... not worth it for me but hey, maybe worth it for you. I canceled my 09 order and saved a lot of $$$ because I am going to wait for the bigger(? )change in model design a few years out.

PCARS are a timeless design in theory, they don't change drastically year to year, so whatever way you go, you can keep it 2 years or 10..It will still be a Porsche, and someone will buy it from you.(If priced right)

I looked for a year and agree, finally getting all this behind you is good, getting miles behind you is awesome!!

Good luck!
