AWE mufflers and broken baffles...

I bought a set of AWE mufflers from Raffi (not blaming him at all) and a year or so later the drivers side muffler has a broken baffle. You can't imagine how bad this sounds. I read that AWE had a problem with the early sets of mufflers they had produced. Now I know I am not the original purchaser of these mufflers but I still contacted AWE (left an email for Mike) and I will see what happens. From what I have read the mufflers have a life time warranty. What do you guys think?? Also, I did purchase a set of AWE 200cpi cats directly from AWE so I do consider myself a customer of theirs.

Yes I did..here is the response.

David,

The orginal purchaser is paying for before, during, and aftersale support. Warranty is not transferrable. This is standard in our industry. This is even stated in our warranty paperwork sent with each exhaust.

Cmon Mike, u can do this. The dude bought the cats direct from u. When one muffler goes bad, wouldnt one replace both to make sure sound is equal? Heh an idea, a complete set (2), Mike pay half and Dave pay half.
Its only an idea

That sucks. Hopefully he'll work something out with you. In the end if you guarantee a product for life, why does it matter if you own it or you sell it to your next door neighbor. Best of luck.

Dave,

I run stock mufflers on my AWE Cats and Evo Headers. You may like the sound of them in that set up.

Too bad about your news, I guess the used market on exhausts systems will look like the Dow Jones now!

Bilstein has the same warranty on there CO's, as long as I am the original owner. Sell them and the are not covered.

Guys here's the update...I removed the muffer myself today (took a whole 25 minutes) and I saw the outer shell had cracked at the welds. Either the welds were weak and once it broke open a tad the rest was history. It's like a dam, the smallest little crack can bring a whole dam down. I took the mufler to Midas where I tipped the guy $20 to reweld the outer case for me..it's not pretty but it seems to be holding up. If the other one breaks I will do the same thing. I have to say the afterhours automotive setup is looking might attractive, especially after I found out that the Borla setup is being manafactured but with a 12 week backlog The Borlas really are vaporware..

NorthVan..I agree, this will have me thinking twice before I buy exhaust parts used. I have owned quite a few high performance cars in my life and I never had a muffler blow out like this one did.

On a side note I have had quite a few people PM me regarding their experience with AWE mufflers including vendors with the same results, so I know my muffler was not a isolated incident.

At lease I am the original owner for the AWE cats, if those go bad I hope they do stand behind their product.

I don't have a pic yet for the muffler with the broken welds as it's on my cell phone and I will post those up later, but here is a photo of the rewelded muffler.

Nice fix. Hope it works.

BTW, I bought my cats used. I am getting some CEL from time to time. AWE can't help, but I don't blame them. You live and die by the sword, next time it is all new for me.

Did you run a scan to see what code you are getting??

There is software available from FVD that can eliminate this for those that want to run 100cpi cats or no cats, as long as that's what the issue is.

AWE had a problem with mufflers a while back and that is why I bought the Fabspeed mufflers plus I liked the overall sound of the Fabspeed better and they looked more substantial in photo's. I put those Fabspeed through a lot in 3 years with countless DE's and many miles on the street. They held up perfectly.

If I was considering any aftermarket exhaust products, I would definitely not buy from AWE now.

Some businesses seem to forget where their money comes from.

The code that I am getting says the air flow between the two sensors on the cats is moving to fast. This error has self corrected it's self, but it comes and goes. Usually goes after I have the codes cleared.

My car runs very fast on the track, I am willing to live with this issue for now.

To be honest, the fix was so easy that it really didn't bother me so much. I am somewhat disappointed as I did buy directly from AWE my cats, I was hoping that this would account for something. I do understand that this is the industry standard....
