Note: Someone posted a video of an 09 Carrera S running against a GTR from a dig, and the Carrera S kept up with (and actually passed) it all the way to 100mph. I thought this was BS but after driving it, I can see how it may be possible up to that speed. After 100mph the GTR walked the Carrera S, and won the quarter mile race, but that was the expected outcome anyway.

Does anybody have this vid??? I would love to see this. All the 911 needs now is to keep that HP and TRQ high through the RPM like you mentioned it kind of dumps out. If they can kick that up these cars would be really insane instead of insane

I've driven steptronic and tiptronic and finally got rid of the vehicles. Let's face it, people are becoming more lazy everyday. They want a car that drives them, not them driving the car. Porsche is just a sheep caving into the demands of the public. How much more can you refine this wonderful vehicle? More computer technology, sensors, comfort, gas mileage? It's a sports car and needs to stay that way.

It's interesting you mention how it dumps out at the high end, because that's what I experienced. During my "test drive" I saw a Pontiac GTO on the road. Let's just say he was very interested in the "new" 911 I was driving and was trying to get a close look at it. The end result was not good for the 911, and as I mentioned earlier, a Turbo is needed for safe, but faster, freeway speeds for *ahem* passing slower cars.

Great points! I always used to think the 964 guys and 993 guys were just *****ing about the new cars (996/997), but they are right: the 911 has to stay raw, rough, and light. Every newer iteration introduces newer and better refinements to interior comfort, technology, gas mileage, safety. What about keeping it light, fun, and raw?!?

The next generation of the 911 (type 991 or 998?) will have some tough requirements to fill. It still has to be a 911: a modern but classic sports car with sublime steering, boxer engine at the back of the car, and exhilirating driving experience. The car has to be light, but still safe (airbags, ABS, PSM, etc.)

Now all the bad stuff: environmentally friendly (hybrid 911?), techno savvy (i read that it will have video cameras for side and rear view mirror projection, active aerodynamics), pedestrian safe front bumper shape to meet euro regs, more active suspension (which even in the new 997.2 I feel is a crock of BS they charge extra for).

Yup, Porsche has a tough act to follow, and judging from the direction they are going in, I'm not sure the next generation will be exactly what we want. In all truth though, I know I'll eventually cave because I'm a sucker for a new car!

The positions stated on this thread are predictable. No stick shift fanatics and/or 997.1 owners will give any respect to the PDK or the 997.2. The thread is a public justification of the posters' current car assets, and that is to be expected.

I now have 500 miles on my 997S with PDK. As most of you know I do not have a choice with tranny's and PDK is a Godsend for me!

For those that do not think it is "sporty" enough, did you push the Sport Chrono PLUS button? PDK shifts either with the paddles or stick shift extremely quick and really bangs off the shifts with a good jolt while accelerating.

I am actually having a blast driving around useing either the stick or paddles.

I do agree the exhaust is WAY too quiet. However my last 2 Carrera S cars had Fabspeed mufflers. I hope someone can cure this quiet car issue I have...SOON!

I need a ride in your car sometime. I really like the idea of the PDK transmission.

I don't know why people want to fight technology. The 993 guys used to complain about radiators too

I overall liked the PDK, the car I test drove did not have the Chrono option so I didn't get to see how that felt. If that helps increase snappiness that would be great.
In it's 100% stock form as test driven, it just felt too tame and quiet to me. I couldn't even feel the engine RPMs, especially with the *** vaccuum turned on .
OK for a lexus, benz or infinity but not IMO a pcar. I think the PDK car would suit me fine with a decent round of mods- PSS10's, AH exhaust, KN or EVOMS intake, maybe an ECU flash- would be about perfect to get rid of that consumer "whitewashing".. lol

I thought I would give the predictable "it's not a stick, it sucks!" But I didn't say that. Instead I titled the thread: No longer a doubter (of PDK)!

I respect the new technology Porsche has put in the 997.2. As I said earlier, the car is FAST, and will undoubtedly pimp slap my 997.1 at the stop light Even Alex at Sharkwerks is shocked from how fast it is and mentioned that it could even give the GT3 a run for its money (double shock).

And yes, I will still justify my current 997.1 with all the typical responses you mentioned earlier... , despite having respect for the new car and PDK.

Mike, the issue is not sportiness but the visceral connection. My second "test" was with a C2S with S/C and while it's fast it's not as much fun as the (probably) slower stick shift version.

My order for the next car will go in to the system in late spring so getting miles on PDK is important for me in terms of getting the right spec for the car. And despite more experience with PDK I prefer doing my own gear shifting and pushing my own clutch. It's just more fun for me.

Hi Everyone, I'm new to this forum, but I also a chance to drive the 09 CS2 w/PDK this past Thurs at the 911 Porsche Launch event in SF. The had a mile long track set up in parking lot of the Monster Park Stadium. The car is truly amazing, it exceeded all my expectations. In launch control, when you mash the accelerator, the car just pulls, pulls and pulls. As a former owner of serveral AMG cars, I've never experienced this kind of acceleration, let alone from a car wth less that 400hp.

Also, I just got word that my 09 CS2 PDK arrived port in San Deigo on Friday and my new toy will be ready for me to pick up on Monday. Woohoo!
