New 997 or used 997S that is the question...

I guess this is another, is the S really worth it thread....

But, I am going to give a background of what I am looking for. Based on what I have seen, there is a smattering of both 997 and 997S owners, probably some that have owned both. I would like to hear from all.

I am not a track junky and probably never will be. So what I am considering is the on road experience of both cars. The road feel, acceleration on an ramp...real world performance etc etc etc.....

My budget allows for either a brand new 2008 C2... I have one picked out... it has PASM, PSM, Chrono, 19's, GT2 seats...the works...Just not the bigger brakes.

Or, I could buy a 2006 C2S to get the bigger engine. If I go this route I lose about 2yrs of warranty and I deal with a cars uncertain past. With the new 08 I get to drive it from new. But of course I miss out on some HP and torque.

What do you think?

Jason

I would go new. It'll suit your needs just fine and you won't have to "worry" about someone else's 2 yr old car

Agreed. Plus, the new A91 is more efficient and is not that far down on power. However, I hope its as tough and reliable as the M97.

Jason, PCars are generally flawless and buying a 2 yr. old car wouldn't bother me and I would get the S. I think you could probably get the 06 for less than the 08 non S.

If you're talking about buying a new 2008 997.1, I'd say no-go and find a low-mi '06 997S- CPO would be ideal. Why pay top $ and eat the depreciation on a discontinued model? Spend the saved money on some must-have mods such as coilovers / intake / exhaust.
I picked up an 06 cab with 14k miles on it for a steal, if this car had been parked on a dealer lot with a window sticker you'd thought it was brand new.

Good luck with your hunt!

I agree that the 06 997S is a great choice, and very good deal right now. The new 997.2 has a number of upgrades to it that would be nice, but I don't see a lot of people trading in there 2-3 year old car for one. If you can afford an 09 997C2 then I would say go for that.

If you can bear to wait, I would. The car mkt is in total meltdown right now. Used cars I'm sure aren't really turning and new car sales are abysmal. You might have more options (esp on the new side 08 and 09) if you were to hang on several months.

I have a similar dilema. Would you go for a preowned 07/08 C4S/targa4S or new 09 C2 w/ PDK? Both have similar performance numbers, but the DFI and other upgrades make a C2 more attractive from that standpoint.

Used 997.1S or new 997.2 are really the only choices IMHO.

Here in FL they are giving 12K off MSRP on 2008 Carreras. Consider that in your negotiation
