Battery died, lost functions, need dealer?
My battery died and after recharging all seems ok, except, I lost heated seat function and homelink.
Any easy way to restore other than dealer?

Same thing happened to my '06 997S last year. I also lost function of the small light under the rear view mirror.
A simple reset at the dealer fixed everything. They even said my battery was still in good shape. I immediately purchased a Porsche charger which I use when not driving the car for a few days and haven't had a problem since.
Good Luck.

The charger is a great idea, if you remember to plug the car in! Went away for a week trip, came back to a totally dead battery. Would not take a charge. 1 new battery later, all is good. Now I plug in every night, just in case.

A couple things I found out (which others probably know already!!).
1. If you insert your key into the car, and the battery is dead, the key doesn't come out again, until you apply external power. So, look for the courtesy lights/dash lights before inserting key....
2. The jump diagram is incorrect in the fuse pamplet. They show hooking the ground to the door jam striker towards the rear of the car. The friendly Porsche tow truck used the pull out fuse connect for the positive, but the door hinge for a negative connection (much less distance between neg and positive). I had tried several times with a jumper cable arrangement, and did not have any luck.
3. Porsche roadside assistance was very helpful in getting the car to the dealer for battery replacement. Called late in the afternoon, and made arrangements for the next morning. Truck was on-time, no hassles.
Your problem sounds minor, compared to a fully dead, will not accept charge type of problem. My battery had shown some problems earlier, when I left a GPS plugged into the foot well outlet. That was enough to cause a minor battery issue after being left there overnight. I plugged in the charger for a couple hours, and the battery responded. So, I was able to start it that time. The last time, there was nothing plugged into any outlets, but the cold snap plus sitting for a week after the previous problem left a dead battery.

No cig lighter on one end and it plugs into a standard voltage electrical outlet on the other end. I have the Porsche trickle charger.
I'm assuming if you drive your car regularly, say as a daily driver, that the car can sit for 2-3 weeks (say a vacation) and start fine. Its been that way with every car I've owned and I would expect no less form Porsche.
Now if you drive only once a week, or only short trips, the battery cannot recharge from the act of starting the engine on short trips, and would need charge help.
What would be of interest is if there is a way for the owner to reset the system, without having to go to the dealer. This issue seems common enough with Porsche's to justify having an owner based reset process. Some car controllers have them.. say 'put key in door, reconnect battery, and go turn key to left and hold for 10 seconds until beep..." or some such process. Why doesn't Porsche have such a process (or does it and if so, what is it?)

I will still use my trickle charger as often as possible.
