Widening lobsters 1" in the front...

Anyone ever considering doing this. A company called Weldcraft Wheels can widen wheels or narrow them depending on what the application is. I would like to widen the OEM Carrera S wheel to at least 8.5" or even 9" in the front to run a wider tire in the front. The 8" rim you can run a 245 tire but to really support that size of tire you really need a minimum of 8.5". I may be one of the few who actually like the look of the 05-08 997S wheel and looking at the offset it should be quite easy to add this. I really would love to run a 255 tire on the front.

Here is the site...chime in and let me know what you think.

Why do you want to run a 255 in the front?

I am considering it..I have friends who have done this on a few of there cars with great success. I always felt the car should have at a minimum a 8.5" wide wheel in the front to support a wider tire than the 235. A couple of guys who track their almost 2 ton Shelby GT500 had no issues with the welds breaking as they run 10.5" wide rears to accomodate wider rubber in the rear. The 285 rubber these cars comes with (GT500) is no match for the kind of tq and hp these cars put down even with a mild tune.

There isn't any aftermarket wheel that I really like other than the Champion RS97 wheel, but to expensive.

I love the look of the wider front..at a minimum I would like to run a 245 tire without pinching the sidewall. The 8" wide OEM rim pinches the sidewall on a 245 a tad.

Not sure if I am going to do it just yet..but a 255 tire would look great on these cars. What I am concerned about will there be enough weight on the front of these cars to bring the tires to temp..I do realize that going to wide of a tire on the front can actually hurt performance due to the fact there may not be enough friction to bring the tires to temp.

I do believe the cup cars are running a 255 front, are they not?

I think they are running something close to a 255, but they are also Cup Cars.

If it is for the look, then I would say give it a try. Not sure if the tire/wheel will rub the suspension or something else while driving.

l love the look of the front with 255's on the front on a wider wheel. Also, I always felt the car pushed a tad. Probably for the street a 245 on a 8.5" wheel would be the best. Not to mention fit probably wouldn't be an issue. As you would get the same effect as far as offset with a 12mm spacer on the front vs. adding .5" vs. going the full inch. I would do it with 2 different wheels and keep my originals.

I ran 255/35/18 and 315/30/18 Toyo R888's with no rubbing issues on a Carrera S.
