Is this normal? Steering wheel question

My new to me 997S just arrived and noticed this pattern in the airbag. Is this normal?

Well I have seen other cars with the similar design... I guess I am just curious why this is more pronounced on some cars and not others? Here are four other random cars I found on autotrader....

angle of shot, lighting and color of leather can make it look more pronounced

I have the same pattern on mine, and I've seen it in other cars that I've sat in at the dealer so I assumed it was normal.

All Porsche circular hubs have this pattern. I believe it is where the center opens when the bag deploys. Perhaps yours is slightly more pronounced, although as stated above, it may just be due to lighting and angle of photo.

Absolutely normal. My last 3 911's have had the same line. It's where the airbag is designed to pop out.

thats right perfectly normal, more noticeable on nonleather version.
my question is why did you ask the question if you already new the answer, and why did acovington offer a completely wrong answer if he has no idea what he is talking about.

The pattern is normal. It's that way so that the metal crest doesn't kill you if you have the unfortunate need for the airbag. Notice how, due to the pattern, the crest will fly to the left (and away from you) upon deployment.

Back in the early 2000s (is that a correct reference to that period of time) people were buying metal crests and placing them on the hubs of their non-metal crested cars (think 99-02 996 and Boxster) and dealers were warning people not to do this due to increased risk of injury upon airbag deployment.

Hope that helped.

Because in some pics you can clearly see the lines... in others not at all. Having not sat in a lot of Porsches I asked the question expecting to get a "it depends answer"....
