I'm thinking of getting a short shifter for my car and I'm leaning toward the B&M which is $179 and about $170 cheaper than the techart. Can anyone recommend one over the other. Seems like a huge pricing disparity

Why not just buy the OEM ?

I have no experience with the Techart unit but did look at the B&M unit and found it fine.

However, why not just go OEM? It's a little more money but not that much. I have the OEM unit in my 997S and love it!

I think the Techart is the OEM version

 

The B&M is actually a very nice piece...however, I found the regular shifter in the 997 to be fine. It's not like the E46 M3 which had a wet noodle for a shifter.

stock shifter is POS, sorry, it is, if you come from a car with a tight well built set up it is clear how sloppy the 997 shifter is... B/M was one of the better mods I did. B/M is a quality maker, perf mod used my many, proven results, etc... only negative I have read it is gets a little to tight in cold climates. Does not effect me as I only drive the car in the warmer months, never winter. Hope that helps...

I doubt it. The OEM part has a Porsche part number, etc. associated with it. Perhaps Techart is re-selling the OEM unit as their own but that would also seem odd.

 

ok, got it, I'll check out the oem unit too.

 

I added the OEM kit a few months back (while adding an Alcantera wheel from the GT3 and matching shift boot) and it's just outstanding. A tad notchy, but a worthwhile upgrade. Price notwithstanding, I'd take the OEM kit again in a flash.

 

I have the OEM and love it.. I little nitchy when cold but it's because of the more precise of sync gears of 1st

 

OEM worked well for me too.

 

I just got the OEM unit last week. It is far superior to the stock shifter. I checked with my local Porsche dealer, if you install a non OEM short shifter, you void all transmission related warranty. The OEM short shifter is actually on sale right now on the Suncoast Porsche website. Good luck, get it, it is awesome.
