Air intake

Can people who have the EVOMS or other manuf intake explain the increase in power and sound you have experienced. Am I correct in that the increased "noise" from the air only is apparent at higher rpms or should you hear it across the rpm band.

Thanks

Oh Boy,

Louder does not mean more power...it simply doesnt! For example, a more free flowing intake could actually be quieter if its sound deadening characteristics are better. For example, the X51 intake, which is more free flowing that stock, is actually still a box configuration and is most likely much quieter than the Evoms version and really not that much louder if at all over the non X51 intake.

Its debatable if aftermarket intakes make power on these engines or not. One thing they do for sure is free up the breathing of the engine in the upper RPM band allowing the engine to have a little better/quicker response up high. How much of that increase in breath makes it to the road is probably not much.

Mass, the stock air box/intake already is a cold air unit. If you just want more sound all you need to do is disable the hemholtz rez. There are a lot of threads on this in this forum. You can get a little more air flow with a BMC air filter. Just do not over oil it and you will be fine.

I thought my question was pretty clear. I did not ask how to get more sound or more power. I asked if the affects of an air intake (power, sound, etc) such as EVOMS / Fabspeed are only apparent at higher RPMs.

I have the Evoms intake, it is louder then stock at higher Rev's, at lower Rev's it is not as noticable. As for power claims, I doubt it gives anything signifcant as a stand alone. At high Rev's with the rest of my system it sounds awesome, but it is an expensive noise maker.

Any intake with less shielding than stock is going to be louder as you are basically freeing up an outlet for combustion noise to get out. Its going to be louder at idle, while cruising, and especially at WOT. Evoms and similar style intakes will be the loudest.

Mass, you will not notice any more power.

Find the cap from almost any 2" dia spray can and cut it down to the height of the resonator lip. Rubber hose slides over it and clamp keeps it all in place.

Since I am paranoid I took a look at it after a while to make sure it wasnt melting or moving.

Sounds awesome after 5K, banshee wail.

I guarantee you this mod with the BMC filter will give the same result as the other "orange" cold air kit found elsewhere. And it looks stock if you like that sort of thing.

Simple Q. Simple A. Yes. More noise, but no more power at all at higher RPMs. Exactly!

I did the "Hemholtz mod" with capping off the airbox with a rubber cap and hose clamp from home depot. I then purchased the EVOMS intake. The EVOMS is def. louder than capping the Hemholtz res. Although I did not have an aftermarket filter with the stock airbox so it may have been similar in sound if I did.

Adding the EVOMS intake is a good $600 upgrade over OEM. There is really only one upgrade you can make for under $600 that makes any difference, and that is a short-shift-kit, aka "SSK".

What you get with the EVOMS intake is a sonic banshee scream under open throttle at 5,000+ RPM's. I thought I felt some power increase, due to a free-er flowing intake, but it's very subjective.

I won't take mine off until I SuperCharge, so yeah, I'm happy with mine. For $600, pull the trigger and don't look back.

Here's a link to a short video I made on the kit, and a link to the sound of pre and post. Note, however, that I never reved higher then 5,000 RPM's in any take. The sound, again, on open throttle at 5,000+ is wild in a really good way.
