06 997 Carrera

Just picked up a 6500 mile 2006 6spd Carrera coupe that is in showroom shape.

I have been looking for a long time to find just the right car and would appreciate some answers to a few questions I have.

1. The original owner never drove it in the rain and stored the car in the winter. He also had the car serviced twice by a Porsche dealer. Since it was not driven much do you think I need to worry about the rear main seal leaking?

2. I really wanted an "S" but the car was so nice and such a good deal I could not pass it up... So, how much faster is an "S" than what I have? Will I really be missing out on that much?

3. The only thing that the original owner did not do from what I can tell is a brake fluid flush, how important is that to do?

Any tips or suggestions would much appreciated.

The car still has 9 months left on the factory warranty and I have been thinking about an aftermarket warranty... Any thoughts on that?

good for you.

I would have the brake fluid flushed.

Take the Porsche Sports driving school class in Birmingham.

best of luck

An extended warranty would likely buy you some piece of mind.

Did you try a C2S before you purchased the C2? If not, try one so you'll know. The difference isn't huge.

Congratulations, and have fun with your new car.

No . 6500 miles on an 06 is nothing to worry about . It's actually a good thing.

2. I really wanted an "S" but the car was so nice and such a good deal I could not pass it up... So, how much faster is an "S" than what I have? Will I really be missing out on that much?

It's faster and it's enough to raise this question right out of the gate . If this still bothers you do not let the car cross 10K miles before selling or trading into an S.

3. The only thing that the original owner did not do from what I can tell is a brake fluid flush, how important is that to do?

I would suggest it. It's not extemely important but quality car care is always beneficial.

Any tips or suggestions would much appreciated.

You might try and see if a CPO is attainable but that would entail selling the car to a dealership and buying it back . In short it will cost you money. You could go aftermarket .. that's money too .

I would pass on both and either discuss repair pricing with your local dealership as well as a few private mechanics . You may find that it's more affordable to hang on to your money because the car is pretty reliable .

Ditto above..mine is an 05 Carrera with only 7800 miles which I bought when it was 6 months old with 2200 miles. Brake fluid flush and oil change and you're set. No real issues. Hold onto your money and wait for repairs to happen. It is still young enough in miles for things to last awhile.

Paid $49k, I think I got a very good deal.

The only thing I am not happy about is the fact that the car has a front license plate bracket on it. My state does not require a front plate. I would love to take the bracket off, but I do not want to paint the front bumper.

I have friend who has a C2S... great car but I like mine better because it has a smoother ride. Anyone else agree with that? Is the smoothness of ride better on the standard car or am I delusional? For me personally I would rather have a smoother ride than more performance.

Thank you all for the great suggestions.

Congrats on the new car. Contact Eric at Bumper Plugs for the license plate fix.

As for the S versus non-S, just enjoy the car and when you decide to trade up in a few years you'll have somewhere to go without spending turbo money! There will always be faster cars as things evolve. My '09 C2 is only down 10hp from last years S and is nearly as quick......maybe even quicker with PDK. Chasing the latest, greatest and fastest cars is very, very expensive and the non-S variants are fast enough for anyone unless you track regularly in which case your skill has to be pretty high before the extra hp really makes much of a difference. YMMV.

Yeah Bumper plugs for the front plate!

Smoother? I assume you do not have PASM or maybe you are on 18's? Either way, there are subtle differences between the two given all the possible option configurations!

What I wanted...

Hey Jason. I am actually also looking to replace my '99 996 with an early model 997/997S, and I've been wondering the same thing! Thanks for that information...there really isn't a big difference.
