2nd Place?? 997 '09 vs BMW M3 '09
I think it is good for Toyota, they are a great company and good for the auto racing world.
Good point Skyler. I am not sure I want to use that as justification for buying one to my wife. However you have the distinct advantage of allowing the lovely young ladies the opportunity to check their make up with your wheels.
I am only giving you a hard time. Good to see your post again.

Well I was single a while ago...back in '03

The point is - they are both very nice cars- if someone rather have a M3- knock yourself out- no hard feelings...some rather have a Vette or a GTR as well- not ME- but some people would

I have had 4 new BMW's including an '05 6 Series Vert- it was a great car- much different than a 911S Cab but still a great car-
But at the end of the day -- a BMW is not a Porsche and they don't even try to be-
If we were all looking for bang for the buck we would have a Vette- but you will not see me driving one...
...maybe if it had some nice chrome wheels....
Cheers-
SD
BTW I came across some pictures of wheel caps that would suit your car. I have them on my work computer. PM next week if you want to see them.

Hey Kurt,
Take it easy. Nobody is crying, I have been laughing too much reading and typing this thread.
If you really understand what most of us are saying here, all these cars that we talk about are very close to each other, any track time differences can be heavily influenced by the driver, road condition, etc.
But since this is a 997 board, the majority of us will prefer a 997 over M3, and we don't need any objective test to defense ourselves.
Ed has enclosed the Autocar article on my behalf that you requested earlier, and it showed that on a wet track, the 997S was "way faster" than the F430. And you were the one who said there was no way that a 997S can outrun a F430. I am "smart enough" not to go on FerrariChat to claim that my 997S is better than F430.
You can keep hanging out here to defense the M3, but that only further prove how stupid you are.

Given that some drivers will be faster in some suspension setups than others, I've never put much stock in comparisons that make a big deal about which car was slightly faster than the other. Wouldn't surprise me that even if you filled both cars up at the same gas station, the engine mapping in each would respond a little differently to the same load of fuel. The tires on each car that day, depending on their brand, wear level and how they responded to the temp's that day could make a major change in the results. These comparisons have a lot more entertainment value than they have informational value.
The Chevy Vega was Motor Trend's Car of the Year, one of the worst cars ever made.
I did find it humorous to have so many points devoted to trunk space, etc., as that implies particular "missions" or "needs" which vary in importance from person to person.
If you're going to muddy the water with unusual criteria, why not include:
- the 5 year cost of maintenance, insurance, depreciation, tires
- reliability
- relative unsprung weight
- the number of steps needed to make adjustments to basic cabin controls
- the size of the spare
- rear-view visibility in square inches
- drag
- ease of parking
- the time the sunroofs take to open & close
- percentage of windshield swept by wipers
- the degree to which the rider's seat will discourage elderly inlaws you don't like from wanting to ride with you
.....no doubt there are an amazing number of almost random qualities that could be equally stressed....
