Can anyone explain what the difference is in the paint cost on a 997 for one of the premium colors such as GT silver Met. Why does this color cost $3300.00 extra when compared to other of the regular metallic paints that cost around $800.00?

Is the paint thicker? Does it have more clear coat applied?

What justifies the high cost of this option?

It does NOT cost anymore. Porsche CHARGES more for one simple reason:

BECAUSE THEY CAN!

The paint is no different. The process is no different. It's all about marketing.

Sucks. But it's the truth.

 

i suspect it does have some additional cost as it is not a normal run colour and so they must do a minor jiggle with production scheduling of the vehicle.

it is cheaper than custom!
