My 997 buying experience
Hey guys, new to the forum. Just wanted to share a cool story. OK, been looking at 997s for a while after I gave my old A4 to my brother after he had an accident. I have been driving the farm truck for about 8 months while I have looked for the right 997 (which I have lusted over since I was old enough to know what a car was). Finally at the dealership they had 2006 997 S which was a CPO car with 19k miles. I test drove and took it to my wife's work that day. She power slid it and drifted it around a vacant parking lot said "ehh it's OK" ( she drives our 06 S4). So I drove it back to the dealership later that day just in love with the car. The next day I was at work and the dealer called and asked what I thought. I told him it was great, but I had to think about it. He said for 500 dollars down he could hold it. I told him don't worry about it because I thought surely no one would buy it. Now, I worried all day about not putting the cash down as I had decided to buy it.
That evening I was driving home from work and my brother called and said " I was on the Porsche dealership website and are you looking at the 06 cab with 19k miles?" I said "yep". He said " well it says it was sold today". I starting trying to rationalize this thinking my wife possibly bought (highly unlikely if you knew my wife) or the dealer was holding it for me.
So I called my wife and she said she had no idea. I called the dealer and he said that some one came in earlier that day and had put down some money but it was not a done deal and call him back on monday. I drove home so depressed. I was sick to my stomach and on top of it my pager would not shut up as I was on call. I went between anger and sheer depression.
As I got home, I hit my garage door opener and in my garage was the 997 I had planned on buying and my wife standing by it with a big smile on her face. She had gone that day and bought it for me. She and my brother had collaborated with the sales person to mess with me a bit. I squealed like a little girl when I saw it. I know really owe her!!

Great story, my wife is similar to that. She was
9 months pregnant with our second child and after returning home from a mothers day brunch, I was looking at the same car (again) on the internet, she said, I am tired of you looking at the car just buy it! Well not quite like your wife but almost! Enjoy it, I too came from the world of Audi, and it is a huge difference.

Awesome story! My wife is about 34 weeks pregant with our third child. I think I annoyed her into letting me but the car. But I was constantly on the web looking at different CPO vehicles. In the end I kept going back to the c4s I ended up buying 2 weeks ago. I think she knew how disappointed I would be if the car went elsewhere. I did have a yellow Carrera which I had my heart set on sold to someone else a week before I found this one... I can relate to the anger and depression swings. I couldn't get the money to the dealer as I was getting hammered at one of the hospitals my group covers. In the end, it turned out for the best.
