Price Collapse
There really is some insane deals out there right now. I want to replace my 996 with a 997S, but don't know wether it'd be best to sell first & buy, or if I should get the 997, & wait until things pick up again to try to sell the 996 for a little more than I'd get right now. Common sense tells me values aren't going to rise again though. I mean, it is a car afterall. What do you guys think?
In 98 we saw it too. The C2 was ONLYa widebody and no Turbo was made. BOTH the 993 Turbo and C2s went up . I bought a used low mile 993 Turbo for over MSRP in 98 .
Anything can happen in the Porsche market.
It appears now that the smart move was leasing and walking away at the end. I wonder if that is the way to go on a new one...or maybe now Porsche is setting the residuals way to low as they are probably eating it on their current leases
So speaking of prices, does it seem like for the most part these cars are going to start bottoming out? My car is an 07S with 11k miles. Right now the dealer is willing to do between 52-56 depending on the dealership. I would guess a private party realistically would be high 50 low 60's. So at this point I'm figuring I may as well hold onto my car for a couple of years, because how much more can they really go down?? Maybe another 5k-10k over the next couple of years? Does that seem about right?
Nope -- an 07 Turbo lease was approx 2500 a month = 90K (rounding up) to rent a car for three years

All cars have tanked . Why do you want to sell this car? Also what are the exact options .
I think the floor buster for the 2006/2007 911 will be presence of used 997.2 cars. Until then, it's just a slow and easy depreciation.
I was hoping to get the turbo, but with as much as the value of my car has dropped in the last few months, I just can't justify it. It has the full leather, heated/power seats, illuminated sills, bose, parking sensors, crests, and it is a cpo. 6 months ago I got it for 74 so I'm looking at at least a 12k hit in 6 months which has to be about the worst hit I've taken on a car in such a short time. I really wouldn't mind "slow and easy depreciation" however these last few months have been anything but

That's under dealer cost . There has to be more-- like a trade in low ball or the car was "punched" ????
Why would a dealership take a loss on a car ? Odd color? Unusual options? Damaged at port?
Why didn't you buy it?

Why haven't I jumped at it? Well '09s are selling for 12-13% under MSRP and it's a much better car, so I'm strongly considering that. And I've found a CPO '07 911TT for $90K with 8k miles, and I kind of think the TT will hold its value better from here. This car has been sitting on this dealer's lot for many many months, it's not going anywhere. I'm going to do something around the end of the month and press for even more of a discount if I buy that car.
No stories, car has not been 'punched' (I know what that means). MSRP $91K, will sell for $71K. Why? It's a car with very unpopular options (pretty bare bones, no power seats, no navi) - and this dealer is financially in some trouble.

I agree with you on the Turbo . The largest depreciation is already priced in. What color , options on the Turbo?

Ucla - about the Turbo . I am seeing a TREMENDOUS price disparity on used 997tt's .
On one end one sees a post of a 245K Techart car and on another a 75K E bay car.
It's like Turbo shopping gone wild. I sugguest being careful buying a car with such a range .
I only know of one Turbo outside of mine that the previous owner is my friend . He traded in the car and it is still at the dealership MONTHS later . I don;t know the dealership but see they are asking 109 .
I have no idea what they will sell it for BUT I do know that the car was well cared for and that he had no problems with it whatsoever . In fact i wish he'd buy it back , mod it and post here . The car has less than 5K miles .

I've tried. I figure my car had an MSRP of 95, and I was looking at a turbo that was the same year and similar miles with an original sticker of 135. I figure my car has taken about a 36% hit since new and I would guess the turbo should be about the same which would have made the gap between both cars about 25k. I offered my car plus 30, and they told me to take a hike they were thinking more like 40, and didn't want to budge. The salesperson said that right now the thing that is hurting me is my car. They really don't want to take in anything on trade right now because they still can't get rid of the 08's on the lot.
