997 C2S or 996TT?
997 C2S or 996TT?
I'd like to get the thoughts of the 997 owners. Prices for '01 996TT & '05 997S are in the same ballpark. Are you completely happy with the C2S? Or if you could, would you swap for a four year older turbo? The Turbo offers fantastic performance with the only negatives in my mind being the interior. The C2S has the great interior, current looks & solid performance, but it's not the turbo.
this topic has been discussed a lot just try to search a little bid and you will fine an answer, but if you ask me I prefer the interior of the 997 over 996 and I don't mind go for fully modded 996 ( engine & body kit ).

I would get the 997S over the 996tt . Despite the power and amazing ability to modify the 996tt the 997 body structure and interior is far improved . I had two regular 996 cars and oit of my 8 Porsches they were my least favorite. I never liked the interior and the xenon headlights are so easy to steal that theives took mine in 5 minutes.
I've thought about that, too. I had an '04 996 c2 and I couldn't wait to sell it and buy my current '05 997s, due primarily to the interior and exterior improvements. For me, going back to a 996, even a TT, would feel like a step backwards.
The 996TT is a fantastic experience with tons of mod-ability to produce chills, no doubt about it, but the interior is so out of date. I also don't care for the look of the 996's in general, and don't think that long-term they'll age gracefully. 997's on the other hand, look to me like an instant classics, destined to age well. Back to the round headlights, rear is flared out again, nicer door handles, nicer side view mirrors, overall more curvaceous bodywork, etc.
To make a long story short: IMHO, the performance upside of a 996TT would be great, but not enough to overcome the interior and bodywork benefits of the 997S.

I really think it comes down to personal preference. Everyone on the 997 board will say go for the 997S (me included), but if you put a post on the turbo board, they would say that you should get a turbo.
You have to decide what car you really want, and to do that you have to ask your self what do I want to use the car for. At the end of the day, they are both very nice capable cars.

I had an '03 996 C4 cab; great exhaust sound, better than my 997S - so much so that my service writer had to look underneath because it sounded like PSE but wasn't. Still, the interior noise of the 996 cab vs. the 997 cab was remarkable. The 997 cab has much less intrusive road noise than the 996 cab. What hasn't been mentioned is the difference between the 996 chassis and the 997 chassis. I am told that this sole reason makes the 997 a better performer and, therefore, a better car to have and drive. I looked at selling and replacing with a 996tt plus cash myself about 4 months ago and drove one and was quite taken by the turbo whoosh; the performance is impressive and the ability to modify it for even more spectacular results is real. But, remember that the linear acceleration of equipping a 997 with a VF supercharger system will accomplish the same, and you get the improved interior, less weight and superior chassis.
I went from a 05' 997 to a 05' 996 turbo S cab and the interior is not a concern, I actually like a few of the features better than my 997. The performance is really not comparable between the 2 cars. I loved my 997 and I love my turbo. My suggestion would be to drive them back to back and see which one feels better to you. I wanted more performance and after doing a bunch of mods on my 997 it still wasn't enough for me so that's why I went with the TT. They are both great cars, you can't go wrong either way.
I drove a '02 C4S yesterday and didn't fall in love. I'll be driving an '01 TT next week and hopefully will like it better. I'll try to drive the C2S next week as well to help me make up my mind. Thanks for the input.
