Just wondering, what was the biggest standout on the 997.2 relative to the 997.1 and M3. I am assuming you guys have driven all 3. I ordered my 997S.2 without a test drive and would love to know what you think of the new S. Congrats by the way, the pics leaving the dealership are great!

My response is strictly going to be related to the mechanical advantages, as all the upgrades, ie: Tailights, front end, interior electronics are pretty self explanatory.

I'll start by comparing apples to apples. When I drove the 997.2 right after the 08 997S, I immediately noticed that the 997.2 was much more responsive. Also, the engine just seemed very refined, with the powerband feeling much smoother. I am not sure if the 997.2 has more torque than the 997S, or if the gearing ratio's were changed for the new model, but it also felt more torquey. Also, the engine note was more deeper, while the 997S seemed to be higher pitched. Just overall, the car mechanically felt stronger, more responsive, and gave great feedback to the driver.

Now take all that I said above, and multiply it by 10, and you know what the 997.2 Carrera S feels like. The engine is just so smooth, and the powerband is great. Right when you hit that 6200 rpm mark, the car just pulls intensely. The salesman told me the sport button changes the exhaust tone, but I am kind of skeptical about that. The ONLY minor gripe that I have about my car is when your going WOT, and shift into third, it seems to dip slightly in rpms, a smidge out of the powerband. My favorite gear is 4TH. Once you hit that gear, the car just hits that powerband perfect and pulls like a jet. Of course I know this from playing Forza, and wouldnt dare drive that fast on public bridges.....

Nick,

Thanks for the PM, I couldn't reply by PM since I don't have enough posts.

Thanks guys for the responses. I love the OEM S wheels so much, I am thinking about just getting spacers, and powdercoating them satin black (Semi-gloss). I am also debating putting a thin red pinstripe on the wheel. What do you guys think?

Oh, and by the way, the car is just insane. I cannot tell you how well balanced the car is, with that power, and the sepreme handling. Just a different experience all together....

Congrats on the car and....let the mods begin. Just for comparison sake, the 997.1 is no slouch

Yes, but you were also bored with the stock 997 turbo!
So I'm not sure what to make of your boredome with the M3.

The red pinstripe could look SICK in the color combo you have. Personally, I'd leave the outer lip arctic silver and powercoat everything else as you described above.

She's a beaut, drive her in good health!!

Wheel choices are a matter of personal taste .

Here's visual food for thought--

I took a picture of a cab 997.1 with the red stripe about two weeks ago .It's not satin black . It shows the effect . Attachment at end of post at the bottom.

I am not a huge fan of black wheels BUT this wheel (photo below ) is my favorite . Look at this carbon fiber dymag . I have seen this wheel on a black car with titanium lug nuts and its beautiful. I borrowed this wheel photo via searh feature . I made it big so you can see the detail .

none of the professional reviews seemed to find such wide a gap between the 2009 carerra and S model.

perhaps the feeling is a little more surreal than real?

Greek, if you find a place in Tampa to do the painted wheel mods let me know. I might want to do something with the 09 S wheels too...maybe we could work out a deal with them.
