997 (PDK) or a 996 Twin Turbo (tip)

Just curious on your thoughts on waiting to get a 997 (pdk) or a 996 twin turbo (tipronic).

The pricing is higher for the pdk cars, but I would have to wait for appriox. 6 months if I went 997 vs. a 01,02 or even a 04 996 TT cab (tip).

your thoughts

PDK what done sold me on the 2009 997. It is amazing. Have you driven an S with PDK?
The caveat is that for a person who wants total involvement in the driving experience, PDK eliminates any sense of shifting. You then focus on engine sound, the mechanical feeling of the suspension and the road, maybe your cup of coffee sitting in the cupholder, phone call,etc...

I would not even look at the 996 even though I did own two of them . It is true that one can make a 996tt into a monster modified car but if you are trying to save money once the mods begin its all over .

I would try to get a 997S and if PDK is what you are after it ought to have it . It's never really bargain shopping when buying a Porsche . One can shave a few grand here or there but in the end it's not cheap so my advice is to get everthing the way you want it right out of the box.

The 996 seems like it was really the proto for the 997. Low on money, Porsche admits that the 997 is the car they had wanted to build, but couldn't. I drove a 996 and 997 back to back before selecting the 997.1. And the .2 with DI and PDK is the '3.1'
No comparison. Waiting is tough, but this is a no-brainer. Sorry.

I have a lot of experiance with the Tip on Porsches....owned a few tracked them all. I currently own a PDK Carrera S and there is ZERO comparison...get the PDK.

Make sure you order Sport Chrono PLUS so that you can unlock the full performance of PDK.

I really like the additional width of the 4s or 4 vs the s. I understand on the 4s or 4 (pdk) cars you can modify how the power is transfered to the wheels. So if you wated you could have most of the power being sent to the rear wheels vs. 50% to 50%.

Is this true ???

Good to hear it from someone with more experience. All I know is that double clutch PDK is different from any other transmission I have ever experienced.

Don't have to wait very long if at all. There are so many launch vehicles out there being offered for extremely low numbers.

when i was picking up my 997 S, there was a 996 GT2 parked right next to it and the salesman let me check it out.

if all you want is big HP numbers, get the 996 tt.

if you want the total package, there is only 1 choice.

the 996 interior is the deal breaker for me.

even if you talk yourself into a 996 now, you will have a hard time staying content for long and will just long for the newer car

Robert, knowing you from the board and a FL show or two I think you'll kick yourself if you settle for a 996. I recall talking to you in Lake Mary prior to your visit to the Ferrari / Orlando dealer, and your were thinking about a 355...
