How fast are our cars?
How fast are our cars?
I know the standard on reporting for car mags and reviews are the good ole 0-60mph times as well as the 1/4 mile times.... magazines reporting most times withen a few 10nth. But I always wished along with 0-60 times that trade mags posted something like 25-75mph times and 60-110 times or something like that. (could care less about top speed to be honest...)
I would love to hear from those whom have a better feel for these numbers....how well does the 997 rank? Hear so many comment on how the 997 is not a drag racer and taking it to the 1/4 strip isn't what this car is made for. (I understand) But how does the 997 (05-08) fair against other sports cars once already up and going. Would love if someone could post some cars (make/model/year) that may pull from the 997 at these speeds but maybe slower 0-60? Or where a car may beat a 997 0-60 but in the new range above the 997 would pull away....finally those very close in 0-60 times but once up and going its a very different outcome. Not just 2 seat sports cars...but anything from m3's and m5's, e55's, Vettes, SRT8's, to WRX's, NSX's, Ferrari's, Lambo, AM, other...
Thanks all......any and all comments appreciated.... Wonder if there are any shockers out there?

Porsches are amazing off the line and for the power can run amazing times for a RWD car. The Turbo's are as fast point to point as any of the cars in its class. Stock for stock it gets faster than the GTR as speed rises and is as fast at lower speeds as well. The only car in its class or below that can truly leave the 911 Turbo for dead is the Z06 at higher speeds.
An easy way to compare cars is the speed at the end of the 1/4 mile ( trap speed ). It puts the 997 S's a little behind the M5 and M6 but ahead of the M3.

I love racing my porsche and I don't see why it's not important to see how fast it goes. All I can tell you is that I have a 06 997 non S with only PSE and Sport Chrono and I ran a 12.8 in the 1/4 smoking my freinds 330I which has twins turbos by he said 4 cars. he ran like a 13.5. I add a few mods over the winter and I can't wait tell it warms up to get to the track again.I also just recently went head to head with a new charger SRT8 on the highway we both had it floored in 5th tell around 140. no one pulled away from each other. Thats a very high horsepower car stock.
the 330I does not have twin turbos....it has an inline six and 225 to 255 HP depending on model year....
the 335i has the twin turbos....300 hp
yes
with those results 13.5 he must have been talking about the 335...330 will not run those #'s stock.

I've been messing with my friend's new Nissan GT-R lately. That car is blistering fast. I'm not going to lie to you and say that my '09 C4S PDK pulled away from it in any arena, but it was within half a car from stoplight to stoplight (going down MacArthur in Newport Beach one night). Plus, my porsche has launch control with the PDK that is quite limited on the GT-R, which allows it to pull ahead 0-40mph. Then it gets kind of murdered beyond that.
Let me say, I choose my porsche over the GT-R any day. Not just being a fanboy, but really overall a better driver's car aside from speed. If I wanted to smoke the GT-R I would go for the turbo, which I purposefully didn't.

The GTR is fast I agree, but I do have problems with a car being referred to as a beast. I hold the patent on referring to cars as animals..LOL
And you pulled a GTR from 0-40? Wow, let me add PDK Porsche's to the list of the cars to avoid at stoplights!
