New here, ready for flames on my Q

Hi all. Last Friday I picked up a 2006 C2S Cab, with 2,300 miles and not a single scratch or blemish anywhere (inside or out).

I've spent the better part of the past 2 hours on this forum reading old posts. Very interesting, and what a great resource this site is.

Here is the situation--I have a 2009 C63 AMG modded with an ECU tune w/ headers and high flow cats. This puts out 520hp at the crank and just flies.

With that said, I'm not trying to match my straight line performance to my C63, but I do want to ring out a little more performance in my C2S. I'm thinking about just doing an ECU tune and calling it a day. My C63 is likely my tuning money sink.

So although I've done a lot of reading, and done searches on tunes, I did not find anything concise about what is the best ECU for this car. I know this answer varies depending on what type of car response one is looking for. For my C63, I chose Kleemann given they had great performance numbers, but did not ring out every last bit of performance that may have sacrificed engine undue engine wear.

Feedback (and flames if necessary) welcome.

I don't have a Flash, but the most common for the 997 seems to be Softronic www.softronic.us other options are GIAC, REVO, APR and I am sure there are others.

I don't think a flash alone is going to give you much of a gain, I found that the Hi flow cats allowed my car to breathe better and feels quicker, and the LWFW has improved it's get up and go.

If you are going to use the C2S to cruise, then I would suggest you keep it stock and save the money for your MB mods, the C2S is a very quick car with excellent performance in braking and corning in it's stock form.

I see you no longer have your supercharged 997. How did that compare with your TT? What supercharger did you use?

Thanks for the feedback. Agreed a tune is maybe good for 20 crank HP which may not be all that noticable. Which high flow cats did you choose?

He used the TPC charger....there are alot of threads regarding comparisons of both the TPC and VF....

Search and you will find.
I personally did the VF for the fact that I found it used for a great price.

This has been the biggest change and bang for the buck (obviously) of all the mods..
Especially if you can save some money and find one used......

Here is a very interesting quote from another post on regrets on modifications a few posts down. Though it would be helpful to you.

For better looks, I add the GT3 / GT2 type areokit from MISHA. Car looker meaner after that.
For performance, I tried (and regretted), ECU GIAC flash, headers, 200 cell cats, sport exhaust, new intake manifold. My regret was that I eventually got rid of all of that stuff and went to supercharging. I would have saved a lot of $$ by going straight to SC AND using all of the stock intake and exhaust parts.
Supercharging made it on par with my 997TT!

I have the AWE 200 cell Hi Flow Cats www.awe-tuning.com they are good people to deal with and also a forum sponsor. I would be surprised if 20hp was the gain on a NA with a flash. I have had a few NA cars in the past, a 2005 Audi S4 with an APR, and a different 2006 997C2S with a GIAC flash, neither of them offered any real improvement to the cars performance.

OK, I'm sold. I'm officially in the market for a used TPC supercharger. PM me if you know one that is available.

AMG Benzes are very fast in a straight line . I find them boring to drive . The car whuch can compete and win is a 997tt . If only I had a camera to photgraph the look on the face of a E 63 owner who took off figuring that a two car length head start plus momentum couldn't possibly be passed in a short sprint . Priceless.

Someone actually filmed a head to head start with an E55 . http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JP4O_3-fB7U

A 997S is not the type of car to run 1/4 mile. A modded up Turbo will cream it.

I find the C63 and the 997 C2S completely different cars (which is why I have both )

My C63 has a ECU tune, and Kleemann headers, which puts out about 530-540 HP at the crank. It's a blast to drive in a straight line as well as in the twisties. The exhaust note is phenominal.

Here is my acceleration vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Og-NQHaYXQ4

Here is a cold start vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4B-qh7B-VXQ

I'd give a stock TT a run for its money.

As for my 997 C2S, I'm still wavering on what (if anything) to do in mods. Earlier this AM I was sold on a supercharger, but someone brought up a good point that it might (or will likely) hurt the resell. I'm planning to have my 997 for a year or 2 at the most and then to move on to a replacement.

As for the C63, I'll likely drive that into the ground.
