I'm looking at a ballpark charge (from the General Manager) of $2,000 plus the cost of any non-warranty repairs, but this is nowhere near firm yet. I'd guess that they'd want to make at least $1,000 for their time and paperwork which would mean that Porsche NA was getting a grand for the extension.

2K is dreamland . It will cost more like 5K by the time you are done .
Why not just take the time to make some friends in service ? When you are a good customer and considerate of their feelings .. they will remember you .

Everything is negotiable . You get a 2K CPO on your car ? Let us all know where because a group buy would generate a lot of business to them .

As for the dealerships who "laughed" --I think that's the more accurate indicator.

I just bought my 997 and they only charged 2K for the CPO aspect to 100K/5 yr at Park Place Porsche in Dallas. This was after we had negotiated the bottom line price. Perhaps it has something to do with the year/condition of the vehicle?

I dont disagree but i think you're missing the aspect that a CPO is with any authorized Porsche dealership, not just the one you buy it from. I'm sure there's a lot of macros that i'm unaware of since i'm unfamiliar with the car biz, but it seems to me that would make it a corporate level service issue, which would remove it from being just a margin builder for just one dealership.

Glad to hear that both me and my dealer's GM are maybe not wacky. I was not too worried since pretty knowledgable acquaintances in both Chicago and upstate NY have done this successfully and put me on to it.

You hit the nail on the head. It's amazing how many extended warranties, even from 'reputable' companies, are virtually worthless away from the selling dealer. This is stated in the fine print of some of the contracts - you have to return the vehicle to the selling dealer except in 'an extreme emergency'. Porsche of Orlando wanted over $6,ooo for a "Platinum" package from whomever's product they sell; no wonder they were not interested in a possible CPO at 1/3 of that. Of course I now won't be shopping there for my next Porsche either.

My 997S, Black Betty, is available. It's been babied in 6speedonline hands since new and is pretty well known here. It's a $300 detail twice a year and stored under a custom-fit cover level of car.

EDIT: Just noticed the sticky so I removed my link. Just PM me if you want more info.

Good luck finding the right car,
--Pete
