Extended Warranty for 06 C2S

The original warranty on my 2006 C2S 13k will run out Aug 09. I am planning on keeping the car for at least 3 more years. So far, the car had no issue what so ever. But, I am thinking about buying extended warranty for peace of mind.

Any tips (e.g. price, where to buy, type of coverage) on buying extended warranty would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Kirk

I would pass on it . They will charge you thousands and end up facing such a run around trying to collect that its not worth the stress . You must understand that in this economy you can negotiate the price of a piece of gum if you want to .

It's my opinion find the most talented person in service and take the time to appreciate his work . That is the highest praise you can ever show. Your car is on warranty and they appreciate that you take your car to them rather than another dealership but more than that if you can empathize taht they work very hard and its not easy -they will notice .

One day if you face a problem they wil try to help you as best they can . Most sales and service people would rather have one understanding customer than ten demanding ones . They will remember you.

I have done alot of research on extended warranties and there are two good ones out there that seem to be the most used by Porsche dealers. There is Easycare which alot of people on the board can attest to and the one I ended up getting which is Fidelity. I paid $2100 for a 6 years 60k additional miles from today with a $100 deductible. Make sure you get the coverage before your car hits 25k as the price goes up exponentially after.

My opinion is this is cheap insurance. Porsche dealers here have used both companies and said both pay them directly and they have never had a hard time collecting. They also cover alot.

Can you show any posts discussing a large warranty claim paid by either on an otherwise out of warranty car?

... beacuse I am reading this type of info on the 996tt forum and it paints a different picture https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...-warranty.html

Here is one link from the boards:
https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...-coverage.html

You can search many threads and there are good things and bad things said but my data comes from 6 Porsche dealers in Southern California local to me and two Porsche certified independant shops. One shop I know very very well and trust them and they told me these two extended warranty companies are very respectable and gave me examples of what they had paid out to customers recently. I ended up buying Fidelity since most dealers here use them and are familiar with them but I will report back when I get my first claim good or bad!!

Jabed - The link you posted was comprised mostly of 997 owners who still have warranty. Although post number 17 raises the mod issue.

In the mid 90's Porsche only gave a two year warranty . I bought it twice . I went through an ordeal to collect but the first one (993) paid itself and the second did not (993 Turbo) .

I did not mod those cars AND most importantly --the insurance was NOT bought in the current economy . Times have changed and my guess is insurance companies are going to hunt for reasons to deny a claim and when an adjuster sees modifications .. game over.

Yeah, I don't plan to heavily mod my car anyways so I am not too worried about that. I just want coverage for any major mechanical problems...hopefully there are never any.

Sounds like I should check with my local Porsche dealer (Porsches Tysons Corner) for their reference on warranty companies.

I briefly chatted with the service guy and was told I needed to visit the finance dept to get more details. It was late in the day, so I didn't follow up. I will probably pay them a visit next week to get more info.

i figure its cheaper to have $ in pocket and do repairs when they come instead of buy something that expires

I have only a few weeks to decide on purchasing an after-market warranty as well. My 05 S Cab is at 33K miles so it isn't going to be cheap. I have a history of keeping cars that I really like for 10 years or, so this is likely to be a long-term relationship.
Really don't know what to do but I hate betting on failure.

My local dealership recommends and sells the Easycare warranty. One of the terms in the Easycare exclusions concerns modifications. I have all of the items noted. Basically, none of them, aside from the reflash, violates the factory warranty. All of them are the usual aftermarket enhancements. The terms in the contract are vague. They can also be construed to mean that nothing is covered. The competion exclusions look like they can exclude autocross and driver events, even for one event.

Cost is around $3000 for 2 years & an additional 24000 miles. Price is one thing, but the exclusions look deadly.

I bought EasyCare. My service rep told me they were the best to deal with and they paid almost every claim that went through his desk. The benefit is also that Porsche sells EasyCare (at least that's where I bought mine) so they have leverage.
