997 Owners with OEM Short Shift Kit in this thread please!

It has been revealed tha the standard 997kit works VERY well in a 996tt providng shorter, smoother, and more accurate shifte. While I have considered going this route, I have also thought that the standard 997 throw might not be short enough for ME. I started to consider the 997 OEM short shift kit (almost double the price) and felt like it might be perfectly suited for my needs. Others have said that the standard 997 kit i good enough and the 997 SSK MIGHT be a bit notchy-er due to its shorter throw. I was wondering if I could get some feedback from those of you who actually have the 997 OEM short shift kit. It would be a plus if you have driven a car with the stock shifter as well for a detailed comparison. Thanks in advance!

My car was ordered with the factory installed short shift kit.

I love it.

Only notchiness is a reluctance to shift into 1st when cold. But that is a complaint many have brought up and I'm not sure it's because of the ssk.

2nd for us, perfect throw on the OEM short shift kit. You sometimes have to pump the clutch to get it into first when stopped for a bit and cold, but other then that glad we ordered it.

My 2008 997S has the factory SSK. And we love it. Our car is a weekend warrior and I do sometimes find that the action can be a little notchy until the gearbox is warm (esp. in 1st and 2nd gear) but once the gearbox is warmed, it's fantastic.

I've spent quite a bit of time behind the wheel of a 2005 997S without the SSK and the difference, IMO, is night and day. This is one of a long list of options that really should be standard on this car.

I can give you both the 997 and 996 perspective. I added the OEM SSK to a 997 and found that the shift into first could be "notchy" when cold but not objectionable. The other gears were OK and I didn't find the distance between shifts to be too much shorter than stock. However, I just added the 997 SSK to a 996 - the shift distances are greatly reduced and all gears are very preceise compared to the stock setup. I'd say they were all "notchy" but I always thought that notchy referred to the shift into first. All-in-all I like the the feel of the SSK on the 996 and I think the shift distances are much reduced from stock. On the 996 I would use the words precise and solid as opposed to notchy. Hope that helps.

These guys have covered it. It can be "notchy" going into 1st when cold, but that goes away once it warms up. It's a nice reduction in throw, and you can install it yourself.

I just installed the SS myself last week after finding the stardard OEM shift change objectionally too long. I can tell you that it is one of the cheapest and best performance mods you can do to this car. Aside from some occasional random notchiness, the shift to first is often very creamy and smooth.
Here is a link to a pictorial of the difference in throw length. I got mine from suncoast parts a good $150 below what my stealer quoted me: http://e-partssales.com/Merchant2/me...=CarreraSSport

I too have the factory ssk on my 997S. I agree with everything the others have said. If you're going to go for a significant reduction in traveled length between gears, go for the SSK and not just the standard 997 kit.

if that notch is what bothers you go with B&M. I have the B&M on my 997S and OEM SSK on the turbo I like the oem more
