'09 Problem IPOD interface
Just got my '09 997.2 C4S.
I hooked up my IPOD (Classic) and Sirius radio (AUX). When I have my IPOD selected and Sirius radio on, they both play through the speakers at the same time.
When I turn the Sirius radio off, the output vol of the IPOD is reduced so low you can hardly hear it. I pull the AUX jack out of the Sirius and everything is fine.
I've tried this on two cars and still the same. So this is a design flaw of the IPOD/AUX interface. They don't independently switch the connections in Hardware. Since they run both inputs (wire ORd) to the input of the preamp, if one signal is pulled down (due to power being off), it pulls down the entire input section.
I'm an EE, and would never design a circuit like this. I've tried designs like this before and they don't work. I wonder what kind of input protections they've designed in (ie against shorts, low impendence, etc.)
Has anyone else noticed this?

I haven't come accross this yet, there is a new PCM 3.0 software update available but I don't think it addresses this. I will be posting more info about the update shortly, if I find more info about your concern, I'll let you know.

Also... your iPod may not charge as the power pinouts have changed. Apparently Apple used one interface before and now a different one and either PAG was not in the know or dropped the ball.
The iPod classic does charge. There is power running to the DIN connector. I understand from the Porsche dealer there is an adapter cable that will allow the iPhone to charge.
I forgot where he said I could buy it (Best Buy?)

[quote=adias;2374803]Interesting! They should have at least buffered all inputs but that is too much to ask for a $440 option, isn't it?
I'm not saying they didn't buffer the inputs, just that the iPOD input and AUX input are wire ORd together, and not seperately buffered

I know the iPod source cannot be selected via the DISC button unless the iPod is connected, so I'd expect the system has separate wires to control /sense the iPOD. If they did that and or-ed together the respective L&R channels from ipod and aux, I'd be really dissapointed. What, to save $5-20 in hardware parts?
Yes, When the IPod is selected and the AUX device is playing, you can hear both at the same time. If you turn the AUX device off, and it has a low impeadence when turned off (the case of the Sirius Radio), you cannot hear the iPOD.
I've tried this on two different vehicles.

This iPOD/AUX interface is starting to drive me crazy. I've got two more problems.
1. A high pitched squeel that changes with engine RPMs. When I disconnect either the AUX (Sirius Radio) OR the IPOD it goes away.
2. I noticed the when the IPOD is connected it pulls down the signal of the Sirius Radio on the AUX interface. When I disconnect the IPOD everything is ok.
Bottom line is you can't have an IPOD and AUX device connected at the same time!
My dealer is unwilling to do anything about it.

Your dealer should arrange it or give you the number to call.
It's simply BS for a dealer to be unwilling to address issues.
The ipod, in this case works ok.
Grrrr. A little frustrating. However I didnt buy the car for it's mp3 capabilities i suppose.
What generation is your IPod classic? Mine is an 80GB and I have no issue at all.
My iPOD is the latest classic 120GB.
It will switch between the AUX and iPOD, but if you have both plugged in at the same time the input signal is significantly pulled down thus lowering quality.
I also get a squeel when they are both plugged in at the same time that changes with engine RPM.

I haven't tried this yet so I don't know if it is alphabetizing off the file name or embedded tag information.

I'm going to try using my AUX device .. if I can find something to plug in there.. I wonder if I have a portable dvd player that will work nicely for that test....
