Interior leather for better Wear
Interior leather for better Wear
I have been noticing 2/3 year old 911's especially black cars developing a sheen on the seats and show their age even on a 3 yr old car
I recently also saw a 3 yr old 911 coupe with Natural brown interior showing similar shine
my observation has been
1) Sand beige wears better
How does Natural Grey hold up
I was thinking of 911 C2S in carrara white with N.Brown or with natural grey but NB seems to have similar issues
Any thoughts from existing owners?
Thanks

It is all about the owner and maintenance. My 1995 993 cab has a classic gray leather interior that is in great shape. But I maintain it with leatherique and other leather cleaners/conditioners on a regular basis. I've seen 2 year old 997's that looked worse.
We are picking up our new 997 tomorrow--and with proper maintenance it will look good for a long, long time.

Miantenance - In fact my black leather is spotless . I use lexall products and the car is parked indoors . I am careful how I get in and out of my car , especially if wearing denim (abrasive) . I don't sit on dirty benches or chairs in pulblic areas because the dirt gets on the clothes and sinks into the leather . I don't exercise and get into the car with sweat . I don't eat in the car. No one is allowed to smoke near the car .
The lighter colors are actually harder to maintain. Natural grey is gorgeous . It's a great color and quality.

i have all that printed on the passenger sun visor!
kidding but this is how you look after the stuff
I have sand biege leather in the Cayenne and black leather in the 911.
IMO, sand beige does not wear better. It does seem to hide light dust and dirt fairly well, but over time, it too will darken and develop a "sheen" from oils/moisture. It does however seem more resistant to scuffing, or at least better at hiding it.
Black hides dirt really well, but it also scuffs very easily. I think this is what you are seeing as opposed to sheen from oils/moisture. If I wear something abrasive, it tends to drag along the black surface and cause the grain in the leather to scuff in the same direction. A little bit of leather conditioner will usually restore the finish back to normal. That said, the fact that it hides dirt is a huge plus for me since it is not noticeable if you get behind on having your interior detailed.
As a whole, I like sand beige a lot more as a color since I feel it gives the interior character, but from a purely maintenance/upkeep perspective, black comes out on top.

Beige is ok with me but I can not stand the look of a beige dash and carpet. I have all black and in 6000 miles it still looks new. I use Lexxall and Griots on the leather.
My wifes CLK550 has beige seats but a black dash and carpets. It looks very nice this way.

+1 on the Leatherique, best leather treatment on the market IMO.
