997 carrera against the ISF
There's a "new" IS-F already?
It'd be close to a 997.1 C2.
Oh yea, and be comfortable, hold 4 people, have a trunk and last 2 lifetimes. If any of that matters much, it's your winner. If instead FEELING faster whether you really are or not, or exterior style matters more, pick the P-Car.

In a straight line, the base may get lucky, but the S is a better match.

I test drove the ISF, M3 coupe, and C63... awesome sporty cars...there's nothing like a hotrod V8... But I bought a 997.1

There are a lot of cars in the same price range (some even less) that will outperform a Porsche, but nothing will feel the same.

That Edmunds test is the slowest I have ever seen recorded for the 997S. Most mags have run between a 12.3-12.6 in the 1/4 mile with 0-60 runs in 3.9-4.4 sec.
Outperform is a pretty subjective frame. if you're talking hole shots, probably not—but then again, no one buys a 911 for that reason. If your definition of performance is stoplight drag-racing Z06 is what i'd recommend.
Considering the weight and hp of the car, those are impressive numbers. Do you have links to any of those magazine test?
i think 0-60/3.9 in a 997S is a gross overstatement. I'd be surprised if a 997 S could even do 4.4, as that sounds a little quick as well for that car.
Ahh, you non believers..
