AWD does well on street cars because todays street cars have more power than most of the stock tires can hold. Even still most all of the fastest cars are still RWD. The GT3 is marginally faster than the TT in the right hands, but the upside in potential on the TT is huge.

I believe it depends on the track, the driver and the outside conditions... I took a Turbo on a track once, and it was scary... Even though you have a lot electronic controls to keep you on the track if you hit the throttle just a tiny bit when you're cornering the turbo kicks in... then you loose control... I personally prefer NA cars for that reason!

Now, one HUGE disadvantage that turbo has is it's weight! The GT3 is so much lighter, that is what makes it a good track car...

I have not driven the R8, Lambo or GTR nor I know of anyone driving these at the track. The R8 and GTR I have seen at Sebring have been in the beginning groups. You can track a Turbo or C4S, no problem with out hurting anything.

On the other hand I know and instruct with a guy that had a 06 C4S and another couple of guys I instruct with that have Turbos. The AWD understeers/push the corners badly...even after different alignments. Plus the steering feel/feedback is not as good as a RWD.
