Noob: 1st pcar input
I am working through this gents. 2006 comparo $55k 11k miles, BUT no sport exhaust, no adaptive seats, no bose, no full leather, no heated seats, probably no short shift, no gear lever/handbrake accents, etc. my point being that the car I am looking at is $5k or so more and loaded up. I am having trouble seeing the reasoning for starting at $53k except because I could start there. additional online market study as of today isn't backing up the price logic. HELP... LOL
add this one to the mix of 06's
Another 06 $68k 15k miles. not loaded.
Non Factory Aero 06 15k miles, $60k - don't like that body kit personally. looks too add on
HIGH miles 43.2k 06 Red/Tan, $55k
24k mile 2007 $62k. some options.

[quote][You can't expect that someone will take exactly what you say and agree on every point./QUOTE]
I am actually agreeing with you because you admit that you are over paying for the car . I am not sure if you are aware of how 20K miles effects resale because you have not ever had to trade one in . I have traded in or sold seven of them and from my experience things like miles cost money.
I am not debating the options or color . I feel its a beautiful car . Again I agree with you .
As for the dealerships asking the 70's and 80's --do you not think I know this ?
Stephs car had a high ask price but that is not where it will sold . Joe Sharks car is not only a cab which costs more but it also has all the aftermarket parts , low miles and most important a clean DME . Stardoc is another California car loaded up with great accessories ., newer year.lower miles etc. Mobonic bought his car over a year ago at your prices with less miles. All those are in California --there are others too in different states . Casafote posted up an 09 PDK launch car 100+K for 75 K with 1K miles . That's only 10K more than your 06. What one asks and what he closes are not always the same thing .
I also understand that you are sold on the aerokit but do you realize you could buy it afterwards too and have a NEW one rather than one which has 20K miles of bugs hitting it. In fact if you order enough parts that's negotiable too .
Joe's price estimate of 53 is actualy what I was going to say too but in the light of the asking price and the ideas you have posted I went in at 55 and closed at 57 which is 4 grand higher hoping that the seller would bite . It's not worth 57 though .
The other cars look nice and southeast storms were mostly with the 2005 model year (Katrina . Ivan , Jeanne, Wilma etc .. Hurricane alley) . Any Porsche can face water damage though and it can be checked if the right technicians are looking and I happen to know the right ones in my area because they took my car to the level it is today with 700+Hp and not one reliability issue after two years and 8500 miles. After 7 Porsches in the local shops we end up growing up together -like family.
But look .. this is your first one . I was trying to help by saving you money .. even on that car if it's the one you love .

53 would insult him . Usually I walk away from a car priced out of the market which is what he has done . That's why others said let him hold it awahile .
55 would would get his attention. Expect a defensive reaction and all types of BS selling points which you already know . He might even say " a dealership offered him more" year right -if he buys a new Turbo with 20K markup --they might even offer him 65 not to insult him. Tell him that in a nice way .
Hit him with -
1) Car is nearly 4 years old
2) car has 20K miles and after 10 K it depreciates a bit
3) car underwent a refresh in 09
4) the money is better off in his pocket than sitting there depreciating more inhis drieveway and collecting dust .
Give him yoir phone number , wish him well and walk .
Give him a week .. if he hasn't called .. move on .

For sure Larry, I completely understand and have taken your posts very seriously. appreciate all the effort you put into replies and helping us newbies get on track with this market. Good to know on the storm cars. The 2008 @ $74k is a unique car and to get that for $64k would really be worthwhile over the 06.

Very solid points. with all this working through things though I am almost feeling I am better off starting to work on the 2 2008's The white/tan in AZ and Gray/Blk in LA. They are asking mid $70's. to get either for mid $60's would be a solid deal in my mind over an 07 or 06. would you agree? and would you think that mid $60's is fair for them?
2008 White/Tan 7500miles asking $75k - AZ is an easy drive away.
2008 Gray/Blk 1700miles asking $74.5k - I like the uniqueness of this cars options.

OP - I was looking into an '06 with Aero in February 2008 with a fair list of options, including PSE and sport chrono, 6 speed, white color, with < 8k miles. They were asking $72k but relatively quickly said $65k would work. I still have the emails for this exchange, and the car was in Anaheim, CA. I passed on the car because I could not find favorable financing at that time, and the car was eventually sold within a few weeks.
Also, around end of summer 2008, Newport Porsche had a 2008 black 4S with aero and most options with < 1k miles for $82k asking that I test drove, and as you may already know, those guys are sky-high in their asking prices.
Between then and now, not only has the clock ticked and a new model come out, but the financial climate / auto market has somewhat changed IMO.
I agree with most other, that even if there is no comparable vehicle at this exact moment, you'll find another one in a couple weeks. Not asking you to beat the seller over the head - hell we all are going to sell someday and want a fair transaction, but just advising you to pay market. Mid 50's would be market on that car, $58k would be high end IMO.
GL with your purchase & search!

Ok let's start from scratch rather than aimlessly chase after cars all over the country with aerokits and low miles
. I saw the white/tan you posted and yes they all look beautiful on a used car lot but when you buy a car from an idependent lot (especially out of state) there's risk . In Florida .. there are so many independent lots filled with modded up cars and just like yours --they all look beautiful .
I know that you are blinded by the Gt3 package because its on every one of your cars but more important is the car itself .. the engine, miles, options which can't be added , and paint. The aerokit can be added for roughly 5 grand plus install to ANY car. Something to consider .
Let me look at some cars and see what i find. I'll take it that 65K is your closing limit.

Why bother? Why make this buy-sell a dance instead of a financial transaction?
If he doesn't know the market, do you think he is going to take a buyer's advice? If he does know the market, he will know he's high and you'll know why. If he thinks he knows the market, then you won't be able to convince him otherwise.
Give him an offer. Tell him that you have other cars and give him a quick run on the facts (less miles, more options, lower asking price, w/ever), see if he counters. If he doesn't, walk. If he does, and your close, tell him so and make a final offer, be ready to walk.
To the OP: Son, drop the emotion, quit worrying about upsetting or lowballing, this is a financial transaction. It's a car not a Chinese wife you are bartering for.
Sheesh.

2) car has 20K miles and after 10 K it depreciates a bit

I started looking in my neck of the woods first . I did not include undependent lots and limited ONLY either a private seller or authorized dealership. I noticed that the 07's were price at 60K but no aerokits . I notice that these guys usually ask high but the one car I bought from them years ago they did give me a good closing price . This 08 has all the things that your 06 has and less miles . I'll keep looking at lower prices but I liked this car. They would have to come way down to reality IMO.

I looked in your area and saw that meteor car with the WTF chrome wheels. I'll look more .
Question -- Would you buy a car and add the aerokit or must it have it out of the gate ?

I agree, integrity and car dealerships just don't go together. Another reason why I had selected the private seller car as my post for input. I prefer to deal with individuals over dealerships anyday.
Also, I look at the aero kit like this. ordered and installed during the factory rollout has to be a much better install than having dealership mechanics install them aftermarket. This is why it is the main criteria in searching. I am not closed to the non-aero's I am just a turn-key sort of guy. I work a lot, drive a lot and have little time off. So for me the car could stay non-aero for awhile before I get to add it. So, I narrowed the field early, by only searching for factory aero.

. getting them to drop to mid or even high $60's is a stretch, don't you think?. Plus I would have to travel to inspect it which for me and my job is tough.Alas!! The infamous Gray/Terracotta that Steph280 and I use to like. It has various flaws up close.
