I noticed that the cars are listing for $62k and $72k. Getting either one for $55k would seem like a visit from the tooth fairy to me

I think we're looking at different cars. The car's the OP is talking about are listed at $59k on the dealers website.

I give up. JD in Paramus - cars are 62 and 72. They fit the bill for equipment, which is very rare. Also pretty bizarre they have two of the same in a pretty rare, maxed out configuration.

You got it (hope I didn't just break any rules there) but did you look at the "authorized" Porsche website listing this dealership or did you look at the dealership's own website. Interesting on the price difference. Perhaps someone knowledgable here can add some insight why dealers would do this.

That's right, the 'official' porsche website has it listed for 62 & 72, the dealer website has it for 59k. I think is always a good idea to check both, that way you can get more info (i.e. free carfax report) and more pictures from both. On the 72k one there's 18% discount on the asking price and 24% based on the negotiated price from OP.

Hey guys,

So how important is the DME? I'm planning to close on the car tomorrow and asked the dealer for the DME scan. He said that it would take 2 hours and would be a charge of $300.00. Sounds like BS to me, since its basically taking a computer read out (what 10 minutes tops?).

Obviously, I don't want to pay $300.00 for a scan so my question to the team here, how big of a deal is it me getting it before I buy? (I think i know what yrralis1 will say =)

mckenna porsche here in socal charges around of $300. I think they are quoting you for their "full inspection".... this included dme scan, piwis, driving the car, putting it up on the lift checking RMS, etc etc etc... i guess u can try and bring in a comp w/ durametric, but i'm not sure if the dealer would be thrilled about that...

I just checked out one of their cars, they seemed pretty accommodative. I didn't ask about the scan or PPI, but if a dealer is unwilling to do a 10 min. DME scan and a paint check for free (also 10 min.), I'd tell them to F.O. I had a full PPI done in PA with the scan for 1 hour labor.

That's ridiculous!!! $300 for a DME scan on one of their cars? That's a red flag to me, if there's no other option I would opt for a PPI done by other dealer or indy shop. Why would they want to give you a hard time on this? If the dme is clean then that would seal the deal for them for $0 cost, seems they're trying to hide something...

What you think? You like it? They had that one for a long long time, they want to part with that one. The other one is mine. The reason I went with the one with the silver rims was because it was more 'stock' then that 06 aero (i think it has a chip, the one you looked at). But very nice car. Tell me if you going to pursue it.

I'm probably passing, unless they want to give it away. Let me know how the DME turns out.

Sometimes one even catch an even lower price off auto trader compared to the official or local website .

Most dealerships REALLY need to update their websites , price their cars to sell , reach out of area buyers and maintain accuracy .

This particular dealership's site is actually better than most . At least their website is accurate and their pricing is spot on.

Bottom line -- they can all ask anything they want .The one who writes the check is the buyer and he can always tear the check up and walk .

Ok gang, its getting weird. So as I mentioned yesterday I requested an DME scan on the 977s I was buying from the dealer. They quoted me a price of $300.00 for the scan, and I was like "it takes 10 minutes and if you want to charge, then charge me an hour (ie $150.00)". So my sales guy says 'fine". This was yesterday and the car was in service to be CPO'ed.

I come in today, ready to buy, checks in hand and looked at the car. Overall it was good, except 1 front tire was bald on the edges (which I pointed out to my sales guy). My sales guy btw was basically rushing me to go see the finance guy and didn't seem inclined to let me view the car over before we went in.

Finally I check the car, we go inside and I ask to see the service records (car was originally brought in this dealer) and the DME. Thats when my sales guy says "oh, I don't have the DME now. I'll have it for you tomorrow" (yeah, after I BUY the car today).

So thats when I told him, there is no sale without the DME scan in my hand and I got up and walked out.

Guy came out in a bit and said that he was sending the car down now to the service station to get it DME scan. I told him, email it to me or no sale.

So what's everyone's thoughts on this? Should I pass or just get it without the DME report?
