Uhhhhh... my car won't start....

hey guys,
Well, when I bought the 997S, the seller told me that if you don't drive it for a while, it might not start. Well, I didn't drive it for about 8 days... and it won't start. Should I just jump start it? treat it like a normal car? Sigh...

I doubt the battery died in 8 days, unless of course you left a bunch of lights on...

Does it unlock electronically? Do lights work inside?

Probably best to just call Porsche roadside and have them jump you or give you a new battery (not sure if they do the latter, but Mercedes always comes with their ML-class full of replacement batteries - love that!)

yes all electronics work

thanks for reply. It just clicks... I guess I'll call Porsche roadside... good idea. My seller had a charger he plugged into the car when he wasn't driving it. Guess I'll call him and ask for it--he offered it to me, but I hadn't followed up... yeah, I'll call P roadside...

Ya, call Porsche roadside, and perhaps take it to the dealer and ask for a DME Scan.

It's very odd that the car won't start after being idle for 8 or so days. Maybe it was an old battery, maybe something else - have them run a system scan and see if there are any other problems with the car.

Good luck!

will do

it was running perfectly til I let her sit... well, we'll see tomorrow...

when I was turning the key, there was a clicking, and the lights flashed on and off, my chrono dial started going around--and my driver window went down a couple inches... then, the info said psm failed... like the whole elec. went cukoo... but even though I know nothing... something tells me there's nothing wrong--and it's all just an overengineered car going nuts because I let it sit and because it won't start. I was told not to let it sit, but I let it sit... I'm guessing once it starts, the elec. will be normal and fine... I'll keep ya updated.

Odd. Mine S is a weekend driver. Sits most of the week and starts just fine on the weekends.

Sounds like a battery problem. The symptoms you describe are similar to a problem that I had with my first 997, lots of short drives and sitting and the battery didn't charge up enough. I bought the Porsche charger and plug it in at least once a week and leave it in when the car sits for long periods.

If some of the functions in your car are not working properly, you may need to get the dealer to reset them. I lost my heated seats and the dealer had to set the computer up to enable them.

As mentioned above, it's not that one car will sit for a week and another won't before the battery dies...it just seems like that. There are other variables...how often and for how long the car is driven is the biggest variable. Does the car get driven around long enough to make up for starting it? How old is the battery? How long has the starting/stopping/driving duration routine the car is in been in place, etc.?

I use a battery tender about 1 week out of every month and my car has been fine.

similar situation here, I haven't had any issues yet but looks like it needs a new battery. But I guess I'll get the charger first to see what happens.

I've left mine for well over a month during the winter with no battery tender...it started up just fine.
